We have all heard about what happened in Aurora, Co, and I think that Gun Control is going to be a huge topic in the following months.


What measures need to be taken? Do you have any ideas that will help prevent this kind of thing from happening again as it pertains to guns?

I don't like guns, you're right, and I find it funny you think that's crazy. I just don't get the defensive fervor some employ when they think someone even wants to talk about gun control. Relax. You and your guns are in no danger. No need to freak out. I'm not even someone that wants to take away guns. They aren't the problem.

The reason why mos enthusiast get defensive we you talk about gun control is that the people leading the charge don't want to make firearms safer. They want to ban them entirely. Every firearms owner cares about safety and frankly if you don't you aren't responsible enough to own them. Safety is always your number one priority.

I would be in support of reasonable regulation that increases safety. Unfortunately what's proposed as 'reasonable regulation' aren't things that improve safety. It's methods proposed by people who want to ban firearms to make the process of getting them 'harder' so that no one wants to.

They can't ban firearms legally so instead they try to regulate them to death. In effect reaching a defacto ban on firearms. Afterall if it's so hard to get one that practically no one does isn't that effectively the same as prohibition?

The problem is that the people leading the gun control movement aren't reasonable people. So they're not pushing safer, they're pushing harder. Because of that even safety focused owners will fight them. Ultimately their intent isn't regulation, it's prohibition.

Reasonable gun owners can't even talk regulation because any point we give will be twisted by the leaders of the anti movement to defacto prohibit firearms. It stinks, but when you're dealing with unreasonable people you can't be reasonable with them.

There obviously needs to be a way from preventing mentally ill people from getting their hands on weapons. I'm not sure on how to accomplish that but it needs to happen asap.

These mass shootings should not be a part of normal life for our country.

I'm staunch supporter of the 2nd amendment. The constitution is clear.

but I'm sure that the founders would not have wanted the mentally ill to have guns or access to guns of sane legal gun owners.

A gun ban is impossible. Perhaps we could have armed guards at schools and malls.

a gun ban is unconstitutional. But even if you restrict them some how some way, then they just kill them first and move on the the civilians.

You dont think having 1 or 2 off-duty cops would put a significant dent into it? OK, occasionally, maybe one out of 10 mass killing attempts, the crazy guy gets lucky. The other 9 times, the guard takes him out before he can rack up a couple dozen kills.

At one time we had institutions to deal with the unstable. Now we mainstream them. Perhaps we need to revisit the decision that has put those people living under overpasses or expecting them to live normally with families that do not know how to deal with those issues.
