We have all heard about what happened in Aurora, Co, and I think that Gun Control is going to be a huge topic in the following months.


What measures need to be taken? Do you have any ideas that will help prevent this kind of thing from happening again as it pertains to guns?

An assault weapon has TWO OR MORE of these features (so, if it has one, thats OK)

Rifles:

Folding or telescoping stock
Pistol grip
Bayonet mount
Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
Grenade launcher

On that list, I'll take... uhh, the pistol grip. Everything else isn't really necessary.

Pistols:

Magazine that attaches outside the pistol grip
Threaded barrel to attach barrel extender, flash suppressor, handgrip, or suppressor
Barrel shroud that can be used as a hand-hold
Unloaded weight of 50 oz (1.4 kg) or more
A semi-automatic version of a fully automatic firearm.

I choose none, I don't need any of those.

Shotgun:

Folding or telescoping stock
Pistol grip
Fixed capacity of more than 5 rounds
Detachable magazine.

I'll take the pistol grip.

Boom, done, legal non-assault weapons.

Assault weapons ARE NOT fully automatic weapons that spray rounds like a machine gun like what you were probably thinking about. They are just semi-auto, shooting as fast as you can pull a trigger, just like non-assault semi-autos.

Assault weapons do not shoot more powerful rounds than any other gun either. If you are hit by a 9mm round or a .45, I don't think you'd care if it was fired by a semi-auto assault weapon or a semi-auto non-assault weapon.

The AWB was a stupid fig-leaf law that did NOTHING, except allow politicans to proclaim they did something.

No law or gun control would have prevented what happened today outside of guns not existing. Connecticut has some of the toughest gun laws in the country and you even have to take a class to own a handgun (just heard this on CNN.)

There is a simple solution if you wanted too. Not that you could get rid of every gun but you could stop most of it.
