Gun Control

We have all heard about what happened in Aurora, Co, and I think that Gun Control is going to be a huge topic in the following months.

What measures need to be taken? Do you have any ideas that will help prevent this kind of thing from happening again as it pertains to guns?

Something I haven't spotted in this thread is the fact that every one of these recent mass shootings has occurred in an area that has specifically excluded weapons from the premises. In effect this excludes the law abiding people from having a firearm with them. The crooks, insane or angry type ignore this. In effect we have created an area for victims with no recourse but to run or hide. 1 person with the correct training and mental attitude could of stopped this much earlier and many families would not be facing ruined lives today.

A few years ago when Israel had a series of school attacks they trained and armed the teachers and the shooters went in search or what they considered softer targets. In other words The presence of an armed and trained force moved the cowards away from the kids. We should do the same.

To pass more laws aimed as solely punishing the already law abiding will make this problem worse and worse.

I just can't believe the libtards think that more gun control will solve anything.

NOTHING will stop some lunatic from strapping an explosive to them and walking into a school or mall. Or walking in a public venue and shooting up the place.

The thing to stop this is to have the school teachers armed. Now there's no way in hell parents will be for that nor will the school district. But putting more police in schools won't really do much either.

I'll tell you this, getting an AR-15 became a top priority for me last night, i have a small handgun, but thats not going to cover me when the crap hits the fan.

I think it'll be a year, maybe two at most before some really hard hitting legislation goes through that makes it next to impossible to get one.

I stole this insight from somebody else, but I think it's a very salient point:

I despise the "guns don't kill people, people do" line as a means to bar any gun control from getting passed. It's true, of course, but it misses the big picture.

I seem to remember on 9/11, planes didn't kill people. People did.

But we went through exhaustive reform to do our best to keep planes from again being used the way they were on that terrible day, did we not?

And yet, all the time, energy and money spent to make planes "safer", it's still possible to get three motivated men on one plane with three razor blades. Don't mix the apples with the oranges.

Even if those planes had been hijacked by men with guns, I think the results of more guns on those planes in the hands of pilots, stewards, a Marshall and even a few civilians would be more beneficial than no guns at all.

We've been trying your way, the way of talk and reform. It's not working (remember, 9/11 was not the first time a plane got hijacked and used for evil). Time to reverse direction, and focus on the real problems; mental health issues, hate, religious intolerance, and ignorance.

That's about as simplistic of analogy as I can imagine.

A gun can be used for protection or criminal activity. One is a guaranteed right, the other against the law.

Maybe we should start punishing the law breakers more severely so the idea of using a gun in a criminal manner doesn't sound so appealing.

It wouldn't help in this case but nothing would. If this kid wanted people dead there are plenty of ways he could have accomplished the same thing.

You say this like there are no gun laws.

If a doctor would have wiped out that class 5 1/2 years ago would you still be looking to reform the system? No you would be defending the lazy parents.

Sure it is.

It's also much, much easier to prevent it from happening.
