Gun Control

We have all heard about what happened in Aurora, Co, and I think that Gun Control is going to be a huge topic in the following months.

What measures need to be taken? Do you have any ideas that will help prevent this kind of thing from happening again as it pertains to guns?

I like this post:

"People want to blame inanimate objects." <-----Great Line!

Quote:
There are hundreds of millions of guns in this country and tens of millions of gun owners. The majority of which go their entire lives without using the gun for crime let alone thinking about doing so. If guns were truly to blame, we’d have 80 million murderers living within our own borders. The law abiding citizens have guns and want to keep owning guns because violent people have guns. Criminals have guns. Governments have guns. Police have guns. The 2nd amendment is there to level the playing field. We have these rights and they are defended in the Constitution to allow law abiding citizens the ability to defend, deter and defeat violence, criminals and tyrants.

Children are dead and that’s the worst kind of tragedy. However, the gun isn’t responsible, the gunman is. 22 children were stabbed in China by a man this week, while none of them died, 15 children have been killed since 2010 in that country. Evil people will do evil things. Murderers don’t need guns to kill just like terrorists don’t need guns to kill just like drunk drivers don’t need guns to kill. Someone woke up this morning and decided they want to kill children. If you don’t see some sort of physiological issue there than I’ve wasted my time with this post. Someone who is willing to kill children is willing to do a lot of inhumane things, even in the absence of guns. There is a problem with his morality and his mentality.

Guns and gun owners aren’t the problem, it’s how they are used and more importantly who they are used by that’s the problem. Dig deeper than that and you’ll find that the real problem is how the American society promotes the same behaviors through war and media which end up causing us the greatest anguish.

IMO idiotic. Why I think it was thought provoking was because if a terrorist tries to do something now we all have to jump through a bunch of hoops but we can't even change one little thing about guns.

That seems to be the overwhelming consensus. The problem is that nobody can offer any feasible effective solution past ".........something."

Schools are going to have to have someone armed in them, or more than a few who are well trained no doubt. These killers seem to know that schools are
un-armed.

Investigate the effects of SSRIs by big pharma—ban if needed and tell them back to the drawing board...'er I mean research lab for something safer. The use of these drugs are increasing. These school shootings seem to have risen with these drugs being more widely used beginning in the 80's and increasing in the 90's to now.

Americans need to be less trigger happy on war, because we have a morality problem. The Killer-in-Chief needs to remove the log from his own eye and we need to stop considering children collateral damage.

What more can be done? Take away everyone's freedom for due to the few criminals or SSRI users?

I just wish that people would understand that there is no correlation between gun control and criminals having firearms. Any sort of ban, confiscation, restriction would result in a few people who follow the rules turning some in, turn the majority of gun owners into criminals for not turning them in and create a new and improved black market for firearms just like prohibition did for booze in the 20's. They (criminals) by definition don't follow laws/rules/regulations and are not affected by all the laws that can be dreamed up by the most good intentioned people in this country.
Lack of laws and restrictions on firearms is not the problem. Chasing after more only wastes time and money and deflects people from looking into the deeper causes of why people feel like their only means of getting attention is to walk into a school or theatre or mall and killing people.

Plain Clothes Certified Staff needs to be roaming the halls... All classrooms should be locked during class, All classrooms should have Auto Locking Doors where no access from the hall can take place. An armed guard is only the 1st target for a madman.

Or homeschool. That's the safest option.

Any of these happen at any private school, or has it just been public schools?

Please, please, oh please, do not advocate armed guards in schools. Besides the fact that it's treating the symptom, not the causes, it also would also raise a generation of kids who think it's normal, and on top of that would likely turn the schools into a shooting gallery when something does go wrong.

On top of that, how long would it be until one of the guards decided to shoot the place up themselves? Think about who they would be: unskilled enough to be a policeman, low-paid, armed, around children, probably high in stress. No. Placing someone with a handgun in every school is a colossally bad idea.
