Why people laugh at Creationists

Taking a lead from Killer Clown I thought I'd create a alternative thread to post some videos I like...

[EDIT New video here]

So on with the show:

Here's the Kent Hovind Theory:

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
Do not believe in traditions simply because they have been handed down for many generations.
But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."

It's a personal thing until he starts trying to make claims of correctness. He's making a judgment on someone else's interpretation of the same unsubstantiated scripture as if it is possible to determine authenticity.

You're making a claim that because something is a personal thing, then a person also has no right of free speech to defend it as correct. That's what I meant when I used the word apologetics.

Both sides are making a judgment here. All of us judge. There isn't a single human being that does not judge. And it's your own personal opinion that it's unsubstantiated. What is credible to one, may not be to another. This is why I generally, except on occasional get involved in religious arguments.

Yes, you were. You give greater credence to the Pope's understanding of Buddhism because of it.

BEP, tell me, does this sound like dogma:

Shit happens. We get upset when shit happens because we don't want it to happen. If we could accept that shit is going to happen regardless of what we want, we'd be better off. There's a way to do that.

We disagree on the relevancy of reincarnation point but not exactly as stated here. I already said it's core beliefs do not hold a belief in the existence of God. So I don't know why you are continuing to assert it.

No, that's your interpretation. Dogma means one is compelled to believe. I said I happen to agree with him per the definition of atheism.
I was explaining my own stand.

No, because you are not compelling me to agree to it. It's someone's opinion and some probably agree with it as true.

I never really examined it that closely. I do agree that shit happens whether or not we want it too. I am not sure about being apathetic about , or at least all the time.

listo has a great understanding of buddhism and you're trying to argue with him. Despite in your own words only "dabbling" in it.

You are wasting your time. You've made some great posts on buddhism though. I'm an athiest but the Buddha's teachings are a great source for self reflection and dealing with life.

No, perhaps I worded it poorly. It's not apathy. I'll give an example. People get sick. Sometimes they get sick and die. Sometimes people die senselessly. That's not something that we can control, it's going to happen whether we want it to or not. Still it can be incredibly upsetting. In time we can get over it and process the reality of the situation. Once we do that we tend to "go back to normal", or at least continue on with a healthier state of mind. This doesn't imply that nothing is ever going to bother us again. This just implies that there is a way to deal with the suffering that exists.

I just can't help myself. I have to take a tilt at that windmill.
