Why people laugh at Creationists

Taking a lead from Killer Clown I thought I'd create a alternative thread to post some videos I like...

[EDIT New video here]

So on with the show:

Here's the Kent Hovind Theory:

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
Do not believe in traditions simply because they have been handed down for many generations.
But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."

Seems straight forward that anyone that believes in anything(other than liberal fallacies) is included.

I believe in an afterlife, an aftersomething, but there's just no way I believe the Bible as an accurate historic tool. I guess that would make me an agnostic? I don't believe we just die and are gone forever, but I in no way believe what most people that believe in the Bible believe.

I also don't believe in a bearded old man living in the sky, waiting to judge me when I die. To me, that has almost as much believability as thunder being created as Thor rides his chariot across the clouds. It's mythology from a time long since gone.

If a person lives a happy while contributing to himself, his family, and society in general with the Bible playing a large part in that, then good on them. I'm just not one of those people that need the Bible to balance my life out.

Once I gave a guy at work a ride home. I hadn't even started the car when he went holy roller on me, asking if I believed in Jesus and feared for my eternal soul. Long story short, it got down to where I am indeed a good guy, but I am to be consigned to purgatory for my non belief. I never understood how he, or anyone else, can so accurately speak of god's intentions based on a book that was written hundreds of years after the death of Jesus, by people that didn't have a full grasp of the language they were trying to decipher. Add to that, that these "holy men" were likely hopped up on the opiates at the time, and you see where someone may have issues wholeheartedly believing what said book says in it.

Just my opinion. If it works for you, fantastic. Just don't go all fundamentalist on us.

Why?

Because you just want to, or there is some empirical evidence, or you can't wrap your brain around just not existing?

There is a feeling that you might get when you lose a loved one, that the person isn't really gone. It is incredibly powerful. It's not logical. It doesn't really make any sense. In fact it can be horribly difficult to deal with as you try to continue on. It could be that accepting the death of someone who is close to you forces you to consider your own mortality. It could be any number of things, maybe it's something I just don't understand and perhaps never will. But it's there.

I bet 100% of those that entered prison were atheists and then converted to Christianity knowing they needed forgiveness.

If anyone wants to question why I doubt a higher power, look no further than what took place in Connecticut.

What kind of god would allow that?

There is suffering in the world.

The origin of suffering is attachment.

It is possible to end suffering.

There is a path you can take.

I completely understand it and it's not logical at all. A lot of people need it to help them deal with grief. Its religion's strongest tool. Some people desperately feel the need to believe they will see their loved ones again and be with them in never ending bliss.

Some people are comfortable with the idea that this is all there is. That we have no special place above the animals (other than intellect) and we are in fact animals with only the most cursory of purposes, to extend the species. It's an unsettling realization to be sure, and it takes courage to look directly into that future reality and be at peace with it.

Why does God allow sin at all? We have choices that we make, I don't think God makes those choices for us. Believe what you will, you may not believe in a higher power but I would bet that higher power believes in you.
