The US Government
Just a simple question that came to me on the drive home today. there are a lot of ways of looking at this and I expect that everybody will hash/rehash them ad nausea.

Is the US Government, in the way it's currently being run, fundamentally broken? If no, no response is really needed.
If yes, what are the potential LONG-TERM issues that stem from this? Not just the obvious nut-job answers of APOCALYPSE AND DEATH AND DESTRUCTION, though it's not unheard of for 'empires' to fall. Thoughts?

Also--if it IS broken, is there anything WE can do to fix it, considering that a LOT of the voting populace (and the population at large) are ****ing idiots? (and no, I don't just speak of those who agree/disagree with me--I'm talking about the ones that have given way to complacency.

I don't know what "broken" means in the way you're using it.

If you're meaning it is politically dysfunctional, I'd disagree technically but agree that it could be a hell of a lot more functional.

By the way -- if you don't think the government isn't "broken," whatever that means, doesn't mean you don't think a response to make it function better is needed.

I'm using it in the broadest sense possible so that it's open to interpretation. however, I tend to use broken in the sense that it needs to be fixed.

I would agree that it needs to be fixed in a lot of ways. But I don't think that means it's dysfunctional.

When Bush's 2nd term was up in 2008, he walked out of the Oval Office. He didn't bunker in, he didn't declare democracy bankrupt, he didn't kill Americans who wanted to remove him from office. Obamacare was passed with large majorities in both chambers who were legitimately elected to office by the people, it was trimmed by judicial review, and will be implemented by the Executive branch.

A dysfunctional government, to my mind, would be in the form of Iran's or Syria's.

Ours is functional and healthy -- but there's a shit ton I'd do to fix it.
