2012 Gambling Challenge - Week 1

We've all been waiting for it, and here it is. Week 1 of the 2012 NFL season is upon us! We have a game Wednesday night, so I'll post the odds for that one now. The rest I will post in a couple of days.

PLEASE read the rules here. The number one rule you need to remember is that editing your bets is not allowed and is subject to immediate disqualification.

Remember that you must place a wager in the first two weeks of the season. If you fail to do so, your spot will be given to someone on the waiting list

Above all else, lets have some fun!

How to read the lines

Sample line

Thu 9/6 New Orleans Saints +6 +223 OVER 52.5
(Date, VISITING TEAM: Point Spread, Money Line, Over/Under)
7:30 PM Indianapolis Colts -6 -243 UNDER 52.5

(Time, HOME TEAM: Point Spread, Money Line, Over/Under)

How to bet the Money Line

Sample line
SAINTS +223
COLTS -243

First off, a money bet is a straight up win/lose bet. No points involved, so of course there are odds payoffs.

If you want to bet on the Saints, you will win $223 for every $100 that you bet. Conversely, for the Colts, you will win $100 for every $243 that you bet.

In other words, the team with the - money line is the favorite (therefore lower payout) and the team with the + is the under dog.

Placing Bets

PLEASE
, format your bets like this:

Colts (-6) $5000
Chiefs (+142 money) $1000
Chiefs/Texans (Under 38) $2000

Looks like my Packers bet was a bit past kickoff. Oh well, replace it with:

Steelers (Over 44.5) $1500

well, that was ****ed.

I only count the jacksonville, washington and atlanta games as good bets. the rest are ****ED.

**** it. let's bust out in the first week.

Bengals +248 $2850 (which is what I calculate as my total, or ALL IN).

IF that game is over first AND the first bet works (should be $9918), conditional:

Chargers +106 $5000
Chargers +1 $4918

I COMPLETELY expect the following to not work at all, and I likely won't have much time this season as grad school is a HUGE time suck.

as such, good luck to all and an early goodbye
