Serious question about Abortion and Gay Marriage

What percent of the us population has had an abortion, or statistically probably will?

What percent of the population is gay and is married or probably will marry?

I'm venturing a guess here for both demographics it's probably pretty low, say around 3 or 4% for abortion and less than 1% for gay marriage.

The reason why I'm asking is why would the largest political party in the US--- the one that is largely in power-- be so obsessed with something that generally affects very few citizens.

Is it because they don't want to discuss the economy? or a Fiscal policy that has damaged the economy and destroyed millions of lives and families?

And actually it would be based on total number since 1973 which is 50 million. and since there are roughly 150 million women.. 30% is only correct if you wrongly assume no multiple abortions(and that all of of those women are still alive)... BUT we also have to consider that the 50 mil figure is LEGAL abortions... we'd have to add in the illegal ones which may offset the multiples. I have no clue. You may also want to consider "morning after" remedies which some would categorize as abortions.. then the figure jumps back up again.

To be safe I am comfortable with 10% which equates to around 20% of all American women in their lifetime. That figure "seems" about right to me. If someone has access to actual data, I'm willing to change that, as right now, its mostly an educated guess.
Valid points all around.

Here is one set of numbers, which might help put things in better perspective:

Twenty-two percent of all pregnancies (excluding miscarriages) end in abortion.
From Jones RK and Kooistra, K., Abortion incidence and access to services in the United States, 2008, Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health, 2011, 43(1):41-50.

Not sure I buy that.. but there ya go. That supports my 10% of total population guess.

Look at it this way. How many women have you slept with Tom? I'll be generous and say 10. Now, if those ten women were pregnant, how many would want to have YOUR RETARD BABY? 7 out of 10 is EXTREMELY GENEROUS!!!

Onto gays wanting marriage. 1% is low. 4% of our population is admittedly LGBT. Even if only half of them were married(which is the national average of people in the US that are married) take your number and double it!

Because these are important constituencies to the Dems. Because they believe in abortion and gay marriage. Because they fit a broader narrative of intolerance that they like to paint the GOP with.

Personally, I find abortion to be a horrible procedure/concept. Especially in late term. But I'm not a woman and can't begin to understand the questions that some of them face. I also get that the hardcore opponents are advocating for the unborn child, but the woman shouldn't have a say in the matter? It's a tough one, to be sure.

Gay marriage is a lot easier for me. I was always a proponent of the "civil union" compromise until I spoke to a friend who is gay. "Why can't you let marriage be different and special and be content with civil unions," I asked her. She explained that it's precisely because marriage is different and special that she wanted the right. Light bulb on. Made perfect sense to me at that point. I also think that, at least with the California rulings, you have a clear 14th amendment issue so, legally, it is also supported.

Just my $.02.

You're not seriously comparing a Constitutional right with nonsense like gay marriage, are you?
To point one. Why do you think black women get more abortions? I'd guess white women perscent is higher than black women. Much like educated women would be more like than less educated women (since the less educated tend to be more likely to be religious perhaps)

Point 2 they are both constitutional rights.

Where in the Constitution does it guarantee abortion or gay marriage? I am not wholly doubting you, just curious where. I think the gay marriage issue is a pointless battle for the right to fight as there is no real legal ground to stand on. I also think abortion should stay legal although I would make modifications to it. Lastly income play a large role in pregnancy rates world wide. The poorer you are, the more prone to pregnancy and giving birth you are.

Per capita black women have more abortions than non-black women.

For example, in Louisiana, they account for 40% of all abortions, yet are "only" about 6% of the population.

This year’s DNC was so gay that Freddie Mercury cried pink tears from heaven. A video was shown that, ten seconds in, demonstrated how society could benefit from attending a congenial LGBT potluck dinner. A young man named Zack Wahls gave a speech about being raised by lesbian parents, which is one of the most dire and pressing issues currently facing this country. Barney Frank slobbered all over the mic about his gay marriage because gay marriage affects all of us, even though it doesn’t really affect many of us at all.

The best way to keep the left from talking about it all the time is for the right to stop making issues out of it.

I dunno but I had a gf a while back who admitted to having an abortion a few years ago. I didn't care at all, but she said her parents would never talk to her again if they ever found out since they are strict catholics. When she turned into a crazy bitch, I thought about telling her parents about it but she had already tried to kill herself because I wouldn't get back together with her. So, I didn't.

Really, only 6% of the population in LA is black? More like one third.
