The Vilma/Saints suspension news is pretty interesting. I am of a mind that the NFL did, in fact, privately offer Vilma (through an intermediary) a reduced suspension, because it's strategically beneficial for them. If Vilma does want to play this year, he'll implicitly admit guilt and ruin his chances of a successful appeal of the suspension. If he doesn't, the appeal process has a good chance of failing for him. Works out for the NFL either way.

RB Mike Goodson is in an ambulence, strapped onto a stretcher, after a helmet-to-helmet collision. He's on his way to a Napa hospital.

We dont need an NFL repository. Whenever a big story happens in the game, someone will just create a thread about it.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought of that, but there's a large amount of news that's somewhere right below "new thread-worthy", which I figured I'd put in here for those who really enjoy following NFL news.

Per PFT, which acknowledges ESPN sources:
Quote:
With Judge Helen G. Berrigan posing questions during a July 26 hearing that suggested she may be leaning toward lifting linebacker Jonathan Vilma’s suspension — and possibly overturning all of the suspensions later — the league reportedly has offered a middle ground. According to Ed Werder, Adam Schefter, and Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com (what, did they take turn typing the letters?), the NFL has offered to reduce Vilma’s suspension to eight games.

Though Steve Wyche of NFL Network said on NFLAM said that no specific offer has been made, the report comes at a time when it makes sense to be talking about possible alternatives to a court-ordered outcome.

The report also comes in the wake of a report by Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports that, if the NFLPA had cooperated with the league’s process, Vilma may have ultimately been suspended only four games. Setting aside for now the serious disconnect between legal gamesmanship and the notion of doing the right thing, the leak to Cole may have laid the foundation for the news of what could be characterized as backpedaling by the league office.

Pretty good QB battle in Tennessee with Matt "Don't call me CassHoleBeck" Hasselbeck vs Jake Locker. I think Hasselbeck gets the job at the beginning of the season, if they start to slip out of the playoff race they transition to Locker. Hope Locker gets 6-10 games unless they are in a legitimate playoff battle. If they do not make the playoffs and Locker does not get a good amount of starter time in, the season is a waste for Locker.

Philly is talented, but Vick will miss 3 or 4 games atleast due to injury. I don't see them being a legit threat yet unless he can stay healthy.

Well how many roughing the passers did he take last season? He had a point that the refs don't call it because most of them look at him as a running back. He took a beating last season. Now they had a full offseason to mesh together. I see them making a big push.
