Romney: 47% of Americans are victims

I guess this maybe the kill shot for his campaign. I know some of you believe you this and won't find a problem with what he said but as a person running for POTUS you probably shouldn't write off 1/2 the country especially in a disparaging way.

Quote:
A hidden camera video of Mitt Romney at a fundraiser shows him talking disparagingly of people who will vote for President Obama.

Said Romney: "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what...These are people who pay no income tax."

He adds: "My job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Self Inflicted kill shot

I am part of the 47% of Obama victim supporters and I don't expect anything of those things you listed.

Now everybody will know Romney is screwed since you sided with him.

More proof of what I said about your values. You want entitlements.

I don't care who else supported it. I was just using that to show what your values were to say what you did in this thread.

This thread is filled with fail from Direckshun's claim that Obama's stimulus is the same as what Romney would have proposed to Dane McCloud's assertion that Ronald Reagan was for socialized medicine to Suzzer's Obama is to the right of Eisenhower. Fun reading.

Pretty much just a factual statement IMO, although 47% might be a touch high.

He is keying in on the primary problem of our generation, which is that half the population puts nothing into the system and continually votes to draw ever more money out of the pockets of producers.

It's not sustainable. The 47% probably can't find Greece on a map but they are going to bring Greece to us.

From what I read, the 47% is a fact based upon 2009 tax returns. Where Romney's message falls flat is that the 47% is made up of many different sets of circumstances. That amount is not entirely made up of freeloaders as his statement would have you believe.

Based on that blanket comment, Romney would have you believe that full-time students and soldiers deployed in combat zones are just looking for entitlements because they don't pay federal income tax. That's the problem with taking a stat like the 47% and making some awful blanket statement like he did.

Of course there are freeloaders. Any country with a population as big as the US's will have people that take advantage of the system. But to say that 47% of the population falls into that bucket is asinine.

Payroll tax? Don't most of the people who have taxes taken out of their check get that money back after they file the Tax Return? I call BS on the pie chart.

Northern Europe does quite well, and is quite sustainable, thank you very much. Indeed, it seems Germany is kicking everyone's ass. Sweden, Denmark, etc also are better off than we are at them moment.

Obviously students and soldiers aren't freeloaders, he realizes that and no thinking person would believe that.

The statistic involved is of little consequence. We've seen Obama play disingenuous games with job creation numbers when unemployment is still rising, for example.

The point Romney is making is that people who are hooked on government benefits are unlikely to vote against their ability to vote themselves money out of the pockets of producers.

...and how does this explain that red states recieve the most in entitlements? People vote the way they do for any number of reasons.

Wasn't talking about tax rates...you were saying it wasn't sustainable...that is incorrect. If we decide to pay for it, it is certainly sustainable.
