Romney: 47% of Americans are victims

I guess this maybe the kill shot for his campaign. I know some of you believe you this and won't find a problem with what he said but as a person running for POTUS you probably shouldn't write off 1/2 the country especially in a disparaging way.

Quote:
A hidden camera video of Mitt Romney at a fundraiser shows him talking disparagingly of people who will vote for President Obama.

Said Romney: "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what...These are people who pay no income tax."

He adds: "My job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Let's just say that in my case, his comments weren't endearing.

I'll be honest: I've been looking for ANY reason to vote for the guy (other than "He's not Obama) and he hasn't help his case much, if at all with his continual gaffes.

Actually, the campaign he's running is worse than McCain's, which I didn't think possible. And I'd have voted McCain if he hadn't chosen Palin.

Instead read it as, "pays no income taxes" i.e. if you pay payroll taxes of $1000 and receive a refund back of $1000, you essentialy paid no income tax.

Most likely true, however I still contribute more to society than 47% of the country and probably more.

The system is flawed.

The liberals with their free shit for votes is what is bringing down this country.
The EITC (which is the program which you're misrepresenting) has kept 5.4 million people above the poverty line while tying work to the amount of assistance you get. Those estimates come from the most recent census.

Your numbers are also a little off. In 2010 the highest possible credit that someone could get (assuming 3+ kids) was 45% of their earned income. That comes from the tax code. Based on how things work according to the tax code, that single mother would receive what was withheld+1800.

Next time you want to talk out of your ass about things that you don't understand, try to choose your topic based on things which aren't backed up by documented research or the tax code.

Must be nice for Romney if he can just say whatever stupid, non-factual thing he wants and his supporters will simply replace it with whatever emotionally-biased idea works for them.

His statements are really just Rorschach tests.
There are large numbers of people who are committed to voting for Obama no matter what Romney does.

There are large numbers of people who don't pay income tax and are therefore practically immune to the GOP's traditional argument for lower taxes.

There are large numbers of people who receive benefits from the government and who are so addicted to and comfortable with those benefits that they are frightened by the thought of reform to these benefits and/or they are ripe for demagoguery about such reform.

There are large numbers of people who consider themselves victims of rich people, bankers, and executives in industries from oil to health insurance.

There is a small group of people who fall into all of the categories above.

A friend of my wife asked me to do her taxes last year, I plugged it into turbotax and went through her info, I would have to verify the numbers which I will do tonight, the amount of the refund was outrageous.
I refused to actually file for her based off what I saw, it disgusted me knowing that our government was literally taking money from us (Family of 5, my wife and I both work, I work days and she works night to avoid paying childcare) and giving it to someone else that chooses to work part-time and grab every entitlement available.

Maybe this has already been said but i think the reason Republicans should be upset with what Romney said, whether they agree with him or not, is because a statement like that might motivate a lot apathetic voters to get out to vote that might have otherwise stayed home.

Good story bro. I'm sure that you probably did it wrong though. Hell you can't even spell assault.

Another thing that it did is absolutely validate the Dem argument about class warfare.
