This is a mediocre draft at the top.

Jones has health issues. Joeckel isn't a top-tier NFL LT. Te'o is an ILB.

Can you find a single player, at any position, that has more value than Smith?

Werner/Star are the only two that are a distant 2nd IMO, along with Jones.

That question leads me to believe you subscribe to the theory that the best player in the draft should go #1.

Because that idea I disagree with. The best player in the draft could be a Guard. A almost useless position.

The #1 pick the draft should always go to the best QB, LT, or pass rusher in any given draft IMO.

So from that aspect, I think Geno is the best QB in the draft and QB happens to be the most valuable position by far. Good enough for me.

Star Lotulelei is only one but there's a grand canyon gap concerning their effect on the game which Geno has the advantage.

If Star is the player everybody can think of, then the scenario at hand is basically taking Glenn Dorsey instead of Matt Ryan.

If the rest of my team was loaded and there were no pass rushers and I couldn't trade down, sure.

In the Chiefs case, Geno Smith should come off the board at Number 1.

I haven't really watched him. If he isn't a monster as a pass rusher, then I'm not drafting him in the top #3.
