So I'm noticing that lately the conservative talk radio pundits have been focusing...

...on national security issues. Instead of attacking Obama's economic policies, they are now going on the offensive attacking his recent foreign policy decisions.

So, is it no longer the economy, stupid?

Months leading up to the RNC it was all about the economy in the sphere of conservative talk radio. If they weren't attacking Obama's policies, they were attacking liberal media members who attacked Romney's platform.

And look, I vehemently oppose a majority of Obama's economics platform, but I have a feeling the Republican base is suspecting that independents aren't buying what Romney/Ryan is selling, particularly because his policies that have been laid out have been shown to be just as fiscally irresponsible as Obama's policies. Increases in spending and lower taxes is no better than tax hikes that don't do anything for the economy and even more increased spending.

Are they trying to divert the conservative base's attention away from that which they were peddling for a couple of years? And all just one or two months before the election?

Or am I just full of shit?

I listen to a shit ton of Republican talk radio, and honestly I think this is just a case of shiny-ball-following.

There haven't been any huge economic developments that play into their Obama's-a-socialist narrative in the last week or two. The only thing remotely close was Obama's "redistribution" comment from 1998 that "surfaced" and that's hardly noteworthy even to Republican radio audiences.

The Libya disaster was mishandled and a total mess. Republican talk radio senses some red meat on the issue and they're right, though of course they'll go off the deep end about it because that's the soup they swim in.

If you're a Republican (and I'm not), you hate to see Obama and the Democrats get the high ground on national security, an issue that's been so reliable for Republicans the past couple decades. So this becomes an issue as long as they feel like there's some meat left on the bone.

I think they will continue to remind people of what should be beyond obvious by now, ie that Obama has been a disaster for our economy, but they'd be foolish not to point out how horribly Obama's foreign policy is failing.

They're throwing a Hail Mary on this Libya thing. Fox and drudge absolutely will not let the story go. I don't think it's working though because every conservative I know is still bitching about school lunches or drink sizes in New York City or the economy, my trainer even went off on a tangent on the War on Christmas today. But I haven't heard anyone really that concerned about Libya.

I guess this game isn't about getting the conservative base riled up, but about getting the attention of independents who barely pay attention to the news. I don't think that's working either, but I guess there's a chance.

I've said it before I'll say it again someone has got to be paying you. You spout talking points in almost perfect harmony with whatever the current Republican PR campaign is.

Yeah, it's nothing but a Hail Mary. It has nothing to do with the fact that Obama's Middle East policy is proving to be a complete failure.

Even CNN and USA Today are starting to notice.
