I think you follow up your question and his excuse with one of the following:

1) Ok, let's accept that you want Congress, who has an approval rating of under 10% in some polls, to be in charge of coming up with the details of your plan. Can't you at least tell the American people which deductions that are large enough to make up the difference in revenues would be considered and on the table or which ones you would rule out? We all know there's only a few.

or

2) So, let me get this straight, in your tax plan, you can tell us what the specific rate would be for different income groups and THAT isn't a detail that has to be negotiated in Congress, but the question of what major deductions would be able to close the revenue gap can't be discussed because it must be negotiated. What's the difference between putting ourt specific rates and specific deductions?
I am more or less in agreement. I do think Romney won and thought Obama looked lost. While I dislike Obama more than Romney I found myself talking to the television Telling Obama to say “ NAME 3!” ( of these deductions/loopholes you would propose to close).

What irks me is that I haven’t seen a plan from either side that would actually balance the budget much less start paying off the debt. Some debt is ok and normal but, when it is equal to the Entire GNP we have a problem that can’t continue to be ignored.

I thought he did a good job of not becoming a factor in the debate. I thought this format, along with the lack of interference from Lehrer, allowed the candidates to go back and forth answering each others assertions and questions pretty well. I don't think that either candidate should feel like they didn't get a fair opportunity to fully explain themselves.

It seems to me like some liberals are mad at Lehrer for not ringing the bell and saving their guy like a fighter who is getting pummeled at the end of a boxing round.
Interesting. I thought Jim looked befuddled, confused, doddering, old, and simply sad. For someone with a long career and a pretty clean record of professionalism, he looked like a guy who is playing one more season than he should.

His attempts to exercise some control were poor and weak and when he kept tossing those leading comments trying to get Obama back on track it was almost sad.

That said, what we saw was a good debate. That may in fact be the lesson. Having some windbag reporter who is more interested in his or her screen time wont make a better debate.

By the way, Obama, without a teleprompter, and facing a guy that can actually debate the issues (John McCain is a dipshit) is pretty funny to watch. A deer in headlights came to mind.

Oh how Barry misses his teleprompter because he can't speak to the issues.

Last night's debate was the first time Obama had to truly answer to "We The People" and justify all his failed policies for re-election. And all of O's horses and all of O's men won't be able to put Obumpty back together again because you can't defend a sh** record.

Wait til the foreign policy debate

There was one time in particular where Romney was actually lecturing Obama on business. It's hard to argue with a successful businessperson on that.

True.

I was surprised that Obama did not fire at least one Bain Capital reference over the Romney bow
