People need to take another look at Sammy Baugh. Four time first team all-pro. That means he was the dominant QB of his era. No one would come close to saying that about Drew Bledsoe.

YA Tittle
Craig Morton who? lol I'll go with YA Tittle 'cause his name is funny Bobby Layne Boomer Esiason Boomer! Largely in part because Boomer was awesome and shortly in part because I have no idea who Bobby Layne is John Brodie Big Ben well Ben has won 2 out of 3 Superbowls, prettah prettah prettah good. And who the **** is John Brodie? Phil Simms Dave Krieg Phill Simms fo sho Drew Bledsoe Sammy Baugh tough one, but I'll go with the statue Steve McNair Len Dawson you already know Jim Plunkett Dan Fouts hmmmm, who's highlights have I seen more of on TV? Can't think of either, go with Plunkett just out of a gut feeling. Norm Van Who? Kurt Warner Kurt Warner is a sure first ballot Hall of Famer and the most incredible story maybe in sports history.

I voted Van Brocklin (10 pro bowls) over Kurt Warner due to consistency, but I wouldn't blame someone for taking Warner.

Game 1: Going with Tittle. It seems like he was pretty productive, and Craig Morton could never really establish himself as a long-term starter anywhere.
Game 2: I could go either way here, so I'll go with the old-school guy in Bobby Layne. Plus I'll bet he's got more interesting stories. Game 3: This is a tough one. I view Brodie as being very similar to Len Dawson. He was a pretty legendary quarterback in San Fran just like Dawson is in KC. Unfortunately, Montana and Young have pushed Brodie out of the limelight. While I like him, though, I'm going with Roethlisberger in a one-game playoff. The rapist is going to get it done. Game 4: Simms vs. Krieg. A big battle of meh. I'll vote for Simms because he had larger hands and fumbled less. Game 5: Bledsoe vs. Baugh. How can you not go with Baugh? The guy is a legend. Bledsoe was good, but Baugh was great. Game 6: C'mon. Lenny the cool against a guy who can't even dodge a bullet? Lenny wins. Game 7: This was a tough one. I like Plunkett's story, but I never felt that he was a dominant player. On the other hand, I think Fouts was a system quarterback. I'd take Fouts in this matchup, but I'm not wowed by him. Game 8: Van Brocklin is worthy and produced a lot of great offense, and doesn't he still hold the single-game passing record? However, Warner was a scoring machine and is perhaps my favorite non-Chiefs quarterback other than maybe Randall Cunningham. I'll go with Warner.

Screw Roethlisberger. Brodie was a top QB in his day, not to mention an excellent golfer.

Tough, tough draw for Van Brocklin. Good QB, but Warner was the best pure passer of my lifetime.
Not always the best decisionmaker, certainly not the most dynamic or athletic guy. But if you give every QB on the field the same line, same WRs and same coverages, I'm confident that Warner would hit more of his WRs than the rest of them. His accuracy, especially downfield, was exceptional.

Where's Roman Gabriel? I loved that guy when I was kid. Bert Jones, too.
Man, if medicine were as advanced back then as it is today, we'd have a different view of QB's in the 70's. Pastorini, Jones, Namath, Cook, etc. and so on. |

I too was a fan of Bert Jones, but he wasn't in the top 52 career passers. He's at 107, so he didn't make the tourney.
