Shutting down Mitt's made-up BS was a way to move things along.

It's not surprising that you got it completely backwards. Here's the right answer:

Lehrer

Scheiffer

Crowley
Radditz

1. Lehrer
2. Scheiffer
3. Radditz

4. Crowley

Lehrer, after all was said and done, actually did the best, and was the least factor in any of the debates. Crowley was by far the worst, clearly biased, and her stepping in was completely unwarranted.

For one thing, she misled the audience. This gets back to a previous discussion you and I have had about fact checkers. She imposed her opinion about what Obama meant by his vague reference to terrorism in the Rose Garden as if it was a fact. In her case, it was worse than the typical fact check column where they express an opinion (e.g. "mostly true") and then explain why they came to that conclusion. She simply said "true" and left it at that (although she did throw Romney a make-up bone right after that which was also poor form, IMO).

Why is it "just" the moderator's job to keep things going?

Why isn't it the moderator's jobs to correct, let's say, a blatant untruth by a candidate?

The fact that she threw Romney the make up bone, as you put it, along with her admission later that Romney was "right in the main", show her clear bias. She just could not help herself, she had to help the President.

Because that would completely destroy the Rs debate strategy.

... It's the candidates job to correct a blatant untruth told by their opponent.

A moderator asks the questions and moves the debate along. They are not there to voice their opinion.

They are there to give us the most serious look possible at the candidates, are they not?

Bingo. A moderator's opinion and bias have no place on the debate stage.
