And...Here...We...Go...

The legacy we leave behind for our children, grandchildren and this great nation is critical. As I approach my 94th birthday, I realize this election could be my last. I believe it is vitally important that we cast our ballots for candidates who base their decisions on biblical principles and support the nation of Israel. I urge you to vote for those who protect the sanctity of life and support the biblical definition of marriage between a man and a woman. Vote for biblical values this November 6, and pray with me that America will remain one nation under God.

—Billy Graham, Montreat, NC

Honestly, I find it a bit hypocritical. Southern Baptists have been decrying Mormonism for years. I don't care how Graham votes, but removing that from his website is really just about political expediency.

That's not an endorsement of Romney. Unless of course you believe that Obama does not support the biblical values of the intended audience. Which is probably true. But Graham did not endorse any candidate.

Well, let's think about it a bit. Graham has a website that publishes and maintains an article stating that Mormonism is a cult. Romney has publicly stated that he is a devout Mormon. Romney meets with Graham. A pic of the sitting together is circulated. Graham's website takes down the article. Graham takes out that full page advertisement.

Does every not for profit hold political rallies and urge its members to vote for particular candidates and parties?

This is the kind of impactful negotiator Mitt Romney is. When he gets done with the Mullahs of Iran, they'll agree to stop building nukes and become the biggest importers of American raised pork in the world.

I think it happens very infrequently. Are you saying other non profits don't endorse candidates?

You seem to be saying that if one, or a few churches, endorse a candidate that entire institution of, "church" should lose tax exempt status, but you then don't see to feel the same way about other no for profits.
So, I'll ask again. If another not for profit expresses preference for a candidate should they lose tax exempt status, or is it just that you want to single out churches?

It's funny that listopencil wants us to read between the lines with Graham's statement. That's fine. But I'll also read between the lines and see that listopencil just started this thread so he could screech about religion.
It's a lot like the, "religion of peace" type stuff about Muslims. Just a bunch of whiny bullshit.

Then you are very naive.

You've gotten it completely backwards. I have never advocated removing tax exempt status from churches. I think it is essential to keep that status to protect churches. The other side of that coin is that churches have a responsibility to avoid becoming political machines.

Ah, I see. You really are obtuse. Perhaps not deliberately. But obtuse nonetheless.
