Do you think Heaven exists?

As some of you may know or not I lost my mom 3 weeks ago and I am sort of struggling with my beliefs with this. She wanted to die so she could go to Heaven instead of getting her colon out. She definitely believed in Heaven and I honestly hope she wasn't disappointed.

My heart wants to believe in Heaven for the simple fact I want to see her again along with my grandma and sometime in the near future my dad.

My head tells me logically that there is probably no heaven and I get a little upset when people say she is in a better place because I really want to say Is she or how do you know?

So I am curious what you guys\gals believe and I am wondering outside of what the bible says has there been anything you have witnessed or experienced that lead you to believe one way or another?

Edit: I do appreciate all the kind words of support it does mean alot but I am not wanting this to be a sympathy thread so any argument for against is fine by me. There will be no offense taken. So have at it.

As someone who has dealt with several cases of people having to make similar decisions, I can understand why she made the choice she made. It was probably tougher on you since you lost her a bit earlier, but when a person makes that decision, I think it's usually the right one for that person.

You keep saying "grandmother" but Dirk has said a couple of times that it was his mom he recently lost.

Why are you here trying to convince anyone that anything Barack Obama has ever done has been wrong? Why not let people believe he is a god like man with extreme super powers?

There is no afterlife.

The entire concept of an afterlife is based on outdated mythology and the beliefs of long-dead civilizations.

Even crap like ghosts is a bunch of crap. I am one of the crazied mother****ers on this planet and I actually would like to believe in ghosts. I have never seen a goddamn thing which makes me believe there's anything after death.

The reason all of us want to believe (me included) is that every child believes in Magic.

And every adult was once a child. Sometimes its hard to let go of old beliefs.

I don't know... My mom was a smart woman but if she believed there was no heaven I don't think she makes the same decision. So in that regard Fish is probably right at least in regards to the slippery slope argument.

Hell is an even more ridiculous concept than heaven.

Even Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in hell.

I know I'm pointing out the obvious here, but it is called "faith" for a reason.

I will say that I lost my own grandmother about 8 years ago, and it ended up being my religious undoing. I was closer to my late grandmother in many ways than my own mother. My grandmother had more responsibility in raising me and giving me my core values than any other person in the world. When she was gone, I guess I had some type of expectation that she would still be with me, and she would still be aware of how my life was going. But my experiences following her death essentially caused me to give up on my religion and seek my own form of enlightenment.

I understand what you're going through. And it really sucks. But my advice would be to keep talking about it even if you don't understand what you're feeling, and don't try to bury your emotions. It will take a long time, but it will get better. Take comfort knowing that you'll never forget all the ways she affected your life, and her knowledge and ideals are now part of you, and make you the person you are.
Thanks and don't worry about it I didn't want this to be a sympathy thread. I was just curious if people had experienced something with a loved one prior to death or maybe after death that would lead them to believe in heaven, afterlife or none.

My grandma was like that for me as well for the most part. I considered her mom #2. She passed 7 years ago and it has gotten easier with time but I miss her every day and wish to see her again as well.

You can no more prove there's no afterlife than you can or can't say there is no God, heaven or hell unless of course you can prove it. It would be supposition.
Do you believe there will be a tomorrow? Prove it. Tomorrow no more exists than (as you say) ghosts, God, heaven or hell although reading some of these posts could change one's mind about hell.
