GOP, 2012: Angry White Men and Their Women

Honestly, that is what the Republican party has become. Think about it...

Think about most of the obnoxious conservatives in this forum: Angry White Men....it says it all. They've been drinking the Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck Kool-Aid for over 20 years now. Is it really surprising, then, that the party no longer appeals to anyone else--especially with their seething contempt and venomous attacks toward anyone who dares to disagree with them?

The Democrats went though a similar thing...between 1968 and 1988, when they lost 5 out of 6 Presidential elections, because they were out-of-touch with the country (too beholden to bleeding heart liberals and minorities.) Between 1992 and 2012, the Republicans have now lost the popular vote for President in 5 of the 6 elections, for the same reason (too beholden to the Tea Party and talk radio addicts.)

Until the GOP admits they have a a big problem, and are out-of-touch, and seek to moderate their policies and rhetoric....they will remain the party of Angry White Men and the Women Who Love Them. They must find ways to appeal to larger numbers of Blacks, Asians, women, and Hispanics--otherwise they are screwed. And they will continue to struggle to win national elections.

It's simple math. Demographic shifts have become political inertia, and the GOP has to recognize that reality--instead of pretending not to notice.

In 1992, Clinton brought the Democratic party back toward the mainstream. For the GOP to turn things around in 2016, they'll need to do the same thing. Whenever political parties are sucked into lunatic fringe politics, they alienate the voters who matter--in our republic, a majority. Republicans had better soon remember the role of majority rule in our country, or they may yet become this century's version of the Whigs.

And again, stock markets drop after every election.
Are you ****ing serious? Did you just wake up from a 6 year nap?

Obama was a ****ing state senator in Illinois that never authored a single piece of legislation, then he didn't even finish his first term as a U.S. Senator where he also didn't author a single piece of legislation.

Romney has a long history of business success, google it. This country needed someone that actually understood how free enterprise works.

OJT for the most important job in the world!

BUT, you're forgetting, that when he did manage to actually show up to vote - he voted "Present" 75% of the time...

Well I've said before that the true genius of the Democratic Party is getting everyone hooked in social services, then they can just say the other guy is going to take then away. Now they have an entire generation hooked on the govt tit. They will always vote democratic, for ever.

I do agree that republicans have to find a way to bridge the gap. There are some things that can so this.

However almost all of the rural hometown areas remain republican, so when shit hits the fan and it all crumbles those big cities are going to eat each other, while those of us in the small towns will be sitting back and laughing

I hate to tell you guys this, but all democratic voters aren't dependent on social services. I know it's comforting to believe that and dismiss the other side as a bunch of lazy assholes who don't know how to work, but it's not true. On top of that, there are PLENTY of voters who take social services and vote solidly Republican.

This dismissive, reductionist attitude toward the opposition is, once again, one of the reasons that the GOP is struggling.

And let me say that the Left does the same thing by trying to act like the Right are a bunch of racist fatcats trying to **** the lower class.
