GOP, 2012: Angry White Men and Their Women

Honestly, that is what the Republican party has become. Think about it...

Think about most of the obnoxious conservatives in this forum: Angry White Men....it says it all. They've been drinking the Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck Kool-Aid for over 20 years now. Is it really surprising, then, that the party no longer appeals to anyone else--especially with their seething contempt and venomous attacks toward anyone who dares to disagree with them?

The Democrats went though a similar thing...between 1968 and 1988, when they lost 5 out of 6 Presidential elections, because they were out-of-touch with the country (too beholden to bleeding heart liberals and minorities.) Between 1992 and 2012, the Republicans have now lost the popular vote for President in 5 of the 6 elections, for the same reason (too beholden to the Tea Party and talk radio addicts.)

Until the GOP admits they have a a big problem, and are out-of-touch, and seek to moderate their policies and rhetoric....they will remain the party of Angry White Men and the Women Who Love Them. They must find ways to appeal to larger numbers of Blacks, Asians, women, and Hispanics--otherwise they are screwed. And they will continue to struggle to win national elections.

It's simple math. Demographic shifts have become political inertia, and the GOP has to recognize that reality--instead of pretending not to notice.

In 1992, Clinton brought the Democratic party back toward the mainstream. For the GOP to turn things around in 2016, they'll need to do the same thing. Whenever political parties are sucked into lunatic fringe politics, they alienate the voters who matter--in our republic, a majority. Republicans had better soon remember the role of majority rule in our country, or they may yet become this century's version of the Whigs.

Exactly, but these facts don't matter. He is an excellent speaker, dresses nice, and tells people what they want to hear.

Heck, he has to be a good guy, he plays basketball.

$42 is a good salary in Iowa?

Sure, things are cheaper out there, particularly food but wtf? Lit hasn't lived long enough to see how much further money used to go.

I agree that it's a good salary in Iowa.

The state government doesn't, however.

$42K per year is the mid-point at which a family of 3 qualifies for insuring their uninsured child for $10 per month.

For a young family, it absolutely IS a good salary in Iowa. It won't buy nearly as much as it used to but it's a liveable wage.

Hell, Romney's Bain was in the business of buying failing businesses, as opposed to letting them fail. Bain would buy them, and hack the company to pieces, and absorb them into a bigger conglomerate corporation. Not to mention that Romney was once all over universal health care. He's not exactly the opposite of Obama in that regard.

I'm just not seeing how things drastically change by Romney being elected. Things are shitty, and Obama failed on many things. But never at any time was I convinced that Romney would have been anything other than another shitty politician maintaining status quo. The system wouldn't allow it.
Romney was successful at business, no matter how you cut it. He knows how free enterprise works. What he did, was how things were being done, and it was legal free enterprise. Do I like all of it? No.

But I think he would have taken those same skills and turned them in our favor.

He believed in the health care being a State level problem, not Federal, and I agree. One of the most appealing parts of that, is if you don't like it in one state, you could move to one more favorable.

I put what Obama did with "cash for clunkers" and his other short sited programs squarely on his shoulders. Did you see the cost of that program? It was incomprehensible and a preposterous joke. He put a car Czar in place that didn't even own a car, or drive.

I don't believe half of what any of them are saying, they are politicians, but I did feel Romney was a man that would do the right things that the job called for.

Looks like the city folk are going to be paying all the medical insurance for the country families. Are your cutoff numbers just for Iowa or a federal standard?

Okay, this is irrelevant. The point is that voters who make more than $30K a year far outweigh the amount of voters who make less (and aren't in college).
