Peacefully grant the State of Texas to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government.
The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government's neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.

Excesses occurred on both sides of that conflict. You can't judge them by the standards of minimal collateral damage warfare that we shouldn't even be measuring contemporary conflicts by.

He wasn't an insane psychopath, but his record includes more than just killing soldiers and ambushes (which are a legitimate part of war), and extends to torture of prisoners and rape. These things are sometimes part of war, but the fact of the matter is that, in a war and during a time in which many men did bad things, he earned a reputation for being especially bad. That's rather telling.

Obviously none of this reflects on you. I'm sure your family, being from the South and likely Confederate sympathizers, have very different views on this. That's fine. But history hasn't been very kind to "Bloody Bill Anderson" for a reason.

See my subsequent post. His reputation isn't some judgment being handed down 150 years later, it's the reputation that he had and earned AT THE TIME.

His reputation among southern sympathizers was quite a bit different than that among union sympathizers. The union won and largely wrote the history.
