Why do we issue food stamps anyway? The seem like such a waste of resources: Printing them, storing them, distributing them etc. Why don't we just have food banks run by local churches and charities where people can come and get some bread, milk, rice and MREs?

I've been an advocate of a expiration time that someone can receive benefits. That a plan to get off the government dime must be made and followed. If not, your on your own.

Even with the system we have now I think more items should be added to the list of things you can't buy... High priced meats, Soda, and brand name anything when a generic is available to start with.

They tried that in trial runs. It was a disaster. The store employees didn't understand, it made the lines longer for the paying customers. People were paying customers (usually other young people) to buy the items not on the list. But, the reason it didn't get adopted was the grocery stores noncooperation going forward. They had too many pissed off paying customers waiting in lines. Not a single one said they would participate in the next round of the trials.

Personally, I don't want to see any kid go hungry regardless of the scum that brought them in this world, so I am not a fan of cutting off the food... I am a fan of limiting the types of food so if they want to eat higher on the hog they can get a job and work for it and get off the government dole.
Chicken thighs and legs provide the same amount of protein Breast does and the same with Hamburger providing the same amount as Ribeyes. Shrimp, Scallops, Lobster Tails, Flounder etc are out... Catfish is allowed... I think it would change the system and make more people want to provide for themselves.

Let churches get paid to do it then,

Milk, Bread, eggs, canned vegs fruits and meats... Voucher coupons for grocery store meats

Back home there is a place called Papa Murphy's it sold uncooked pizza. I would stop by there and pick up a pizza from time to time after work. The day the EBT cards got filled it would be packed with people driving nicer vehicles than I drive carrying out 5 or 6 pizzas at a time. I did not know what EBT stood for. There was a huge sign in the window say "we accept EBT" I asked the guy who ran the place what that was. He told me it was the poor card and 90% of his business. It was a real wake up to witness time and time again people in high end vehicles buy a stack of pizzas and pay with a poor card. Anyone who thinks the welfare system is not being abused is not paying attention. I would wager well over half in the system should not be~

That's how political parties win votes, I have never seen a victory where the candidate told people they were going to take stuff away.

The next Republicans need to lie their asses off and promise everyone the world.
