It's really hard to come up with a top 5 list because it depends on what mood I'm in. Sometimes my list might include 80's alternative like Guadalcanal Diary and REM. Other times it will be classic rock or 80's NWOBHM like Holocaust or Angelwitch. Lately, I've been on kind of a 70's kick and have been picking up stuff that I didn't use to like as much, like Neil Young or CCR.

I have a half full 160g iPod and I usually just have it on random so don't really favor one band over another.

A lot of good ones on there--surprisingly good. Many would fit right in on the 70s albums. Of course, many of them were largely written in the 70s, so that makes sense.

Interesting take. "1983...A Merman I Should Turn to Be" is my favorite Hendrix tune of all time, oddly enough.

I just started playing the bass a few months ago (after nearly 3 decades on the guitar) and I freaking love it.

as cliché as it sounds at this point, there's really no arguing that The Rolling Stones are actually the world's greatest rock and roll band.

Don't care who likes 'em or not, what anyone's opinion is; no one has done it better for longer. Their 'worst' album is better than most band's best, period.

Sure, there are black rock bands, though I doubt anyone would put them top 5, because none of them happen to be as good as a lot of others.TV on the Radio comes to mind.

You COULD argue for Otis Redding.

Hendrix was pretty good.
