Chiefs' Player Jevon Belcher involved in murder-suicide, shoots self at Arrowhead

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

Nobody has ever argued that it had to be postponed to Monday night. People said postponed, and you basically called them morons for it.

As far as the contract goes, it most likely doesn't say anything about having games on Mondays -- instead, it would probably deal with exclusive rights to nationally televised games on Monday night.

Anyway, the players had a say in this. This was an unforeseeable circumstance that can allows for significant affects on contractual obligations, similar to Acts of God.

I'd like to have seen the game postponed until Jan 3rd. It's a Thursday night, after the regular season is scheduled to end. Right before Wildcard Weekend.

You can put it on NFL network, making it a national game and collecting more money than if it were just two local markets. It doesn't displace any other network scheduling. The NFL could share that revenue with whatever network was set to run the game. It doesn't split the MNF viewership.

And the city and the players can focus on healing or moving forward or being with family or resting or whatever they need most for the next few days.

As far as I can see, problem solved.

And you don't think Fox would have a little problem with that? What problem is solved? Postponing a game solves a few problems, but creates a mountain of other problems.
