Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide

No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

It doesn't matter what the rumors are or why he did it. What matters is there are families hurting and a baby with no parents. This is a horrible tragedy and my heart goes out to everyone involved.

That's a damn good point. Instead of manning up to what he did, he took the chickenshit way out, and gained sympathy by doing so.

No shit? I didn't get that from reading the words that said exactly that...

They were fighting Friday night. She could have told him she was leaving. He could blame Charles for giving her a place to go.

You think the current NFL, with its increasing care and attention placed on concussions, would have allowed for the Chiefs to not report a series of concussions on a starting MLB?

Because that's what that Deadspin article asks us to believe. Jovan Belcher, as far as I can remember, has never suffered a concussion in a Chiefs uniform. Especially not this season -- a season where every NFL team has taken pains to report concussions (and, in the Chiefs case, hold players out (Quinn) even after they've been cleared by doctors post-concussion).

Reaper, come on.

You really think every concussion is getting reported? These guys run into each other with enough force that it emulates running your car into a brick wall at 45 MPH.

Pretty sure there are tons and tons and tons of minor concussions on a weekly basis that go undiagnosed.

Not at all. think he is thinking he now has a face saving way out. So does Romeo. So does Clark.

They are all able to say 'the best way to heal is for this organization to move forward in a different direction.'

Ehhhh... somehow I doubt that he's worried about his job status right now. The shock and terror of watching someone kill themselves would take probably take precedence.

I think of it more like he did the unthinkable act of killing his GF, realized he just destroyed many lives and probably felt like he didn't deserve to live and killed himself out of guilt.

You call that chickenshit, I call it crazy. I am not sympathizing with him, I just don't think the suicide was a way to get out of "manning up". I think its an unthinkable response to an unthinkable act.

Perhaps. In my mind, he killed himself less out of remorse for his previous act and more out of despair for the end of a career and impending jail time. A lot of it.
