Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide

No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

Yep. Say what you will about their football accumen, but they have to see that every night before they go to sleep for the rest of their lives. I feel for both of them.

Belcher may have been a great guy up until this point, but he did a real job of just completely ****ing up many people's lives on his selfish way out. Hopefully they all piss on his grave.

ESPN doesn't get it. They make it sound like he had head injuries and the league should've had mental health resources available etC.

Pffff. Like other have said I think he shot his woman, the freaked out and drove to work to talk to his other family since he has no family here. Saw police roll up because the girls mother was in the house when it happened and called them....he saw them and freaked then killed himself.

****ing ESPN

What a horrible tragedy. My condolences to the friends and family of both Mr. Belcher and his girlfriend, and to everyone else affected by these acts of violence.

Just another situation where football is more important than real life. Goodell orders the panthers to fly down kansas city after coaches, GM and potential players just witnessed a murder suicide. Goodell is a scumbag rat.

The very day after? I doubt it. There heads most likely will not be in the game. There is injury potential galore tomorrow if the NFL allows this game to be played.

According to a KCTV-Ch. 5 report in Kansas City, Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend at home around 8 a.m. CT, then drove to the team facility, where he later shot and killed himself in the parking lot of the team complex. Earlier reports indicated that Belcher argued with some Chiefs coaches and Kansas City general manager Scott ***** before committing suicide.
If this is true, it sure doesn't sound like ***** was trying to de-escalate the situation. While this is ultimately Belcher's responsibility, and it is a tragedy no matter how you slice it, if ***** and the coaching staff were indeed arguing with him instead of trying to get him to calm down and turn himself in, they need to go NOW.

They will never be able to unsee Belchers selfish act. I want them both gone next year. But, thats about their job performance. On a personal human being level, they deserve our sympathy and support overcoming this selfish act.

What a colossal shitstorm 2012 has been for the KC Chiefs.

Read my damn post. There's no doubt that the movement (and more importantly, the poor performance of the team) contributed to a stressful environment for everyone on the team, Belcher included. Clearly he had other major issues, but those issues are often manifested when other things in a person's life are not going well. I have a hard time believing that a fan revolt is a complete non-factor in any player's emotional well-being.
