Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide

No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

This. Yes, he murdered his gf and left a baby without a mother and father, but it's not the same as if he was some guy who broke into a house and shot someone to rob them, did a drive by, or whatever. I can't hate Jovan for what he did here since it is very clear that he was not rational and who can say what clarity he had leading up to this. I don't want a tribute to him, either. I feel bad for the woman and the baby, and as for Jovan, I feel pity over such a waste.

I don't know myself. But I'm refraining from judging those comments for this reason.
I don't care to get into a big argument but I disagree.

As far as prayers for the families I'm sure they'll need them...

I don't agree. Not saying that the fans are responsible but the entire situation at Arrowhead from the fans up is an emotional drain for the players. For the players they are caught in the middle of an inept management and fans who hate them. Assuming they have a good support system via relationships with their wives, girlfriends, teammates they might be well equipped to deal with a terrible work environment. But if they don't then going to Arrowhead must truly suck.

KCPD also tells @BuzzFeedSports that the player thanked the coaches and Pioli for all they'd done for him before committing suicide.

There are no words. I can't imagine what Romeo/Pioli must be feeling right now if the reports are true. To watch a player that you brought into the organization/defense that you run straight from college, spend countless hours with him for 4 years, and then watch him take his life in front of you. If the NFL makes us play tomorrow, they should just walk out and take a knee.

That the mother was there and witnessed it and was left unharmed and the fact he went to Arrowhead to thank the Pioli\Crennel before offing himself.

I am obviously just speculating...

No one knows aside from the people that were present how that conversation went. To assume it went one way or another is not fair.

Pioli just saw a person kill himself in front of his own eyes.

So even if they play the game, what about the rumors of the incident taking place in front of other Chiefs employees? If it really was Crennel trying to talk him down, I can't possibly imagine him coaching the game after such a traumatizing experience.
