Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide

No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

Source: Belcher murder-suicide followed argument over Trey Songz concert
More News

A friend of the woman killed today by Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher said the couple argued in the early morning hours after the woman was out late attending Friday’s Trey Songz concert at The Midland.

The friend, who asked not to be identified, said Belcher confronted his girlfriend when she returned home about 1 a.m.

The couple had dated about three years and argued frequently, the friend said, but she wasn’t aware of any prior physical abuse.

As news spread that Belcher had killed his girlfriend and then himself, several friends of the victim gathered outside the couple’s home in the 5400 block of Crysler Avenue in Kansas City.

Another friend, Jennifer Ashley, said the woman was a student at Blue River Community College in Independence and wanted to be a school teacher. She said the victim had started dating Belcher after being introduced to him by the girlfriend of another Chiefs player.

Belcher, originally from Long Island, N.Y., had been with the Chiefs for four years. He joined the team as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Maine.

Jesus Christ.

According to a friend of the GF, they were arguing about the GF being out late at a Trey Songz concert.

"Out late" results in 2 people dead, a baby without parents, and numerous people scarred for life.

It's not about condoning what he did. You can totally disagree with what the guy did and still be in a state of shock and hurt over what happened.

The advise to the families and those who witness a suicide is that you should just continue on with their lives as normally as possible.
u know, it really is just a horrible story but this is about as blunt and true as you can get.

It would in terms of draft position. You can't just cancel. They have to have competitive fairness and balance to the other 30 teams. It's not just about this game but how the END game plays out.

The only way to postpone would be to move it to Monday, which I don't think is a whole lot better.

Maybe they could default, and give the win to the Panthers. It's not like one more loss is going to make a difference.

What if Belcher was on meds? Would you defend him like you did your wife? Why would you call him a murderer (like BRC said in post 210) before reading the facts?

E=Laz;9167462]Nobody condones his actions but if rumors are true it's not as crazy as you might think. l

following is complete rumor/conjecture/hypothesis:

1. Girlfriend decides, for whatever reason, that today is the day she tells Belcher that 'their' child is not biologically his.

2. Belcher loses it and in his anger and grief grabs a gun and shoots her

3. after his grief/rages subsides he looks down at what he's done.

He's killed the woman he loves ... he career is over ... his life(as he knows it) is over ... he's going to jail for 20+ years. Depression sets in and he decides he doesn't deserve or want to live with it.

So he decides to say his goodbyes and take his own life. The Chiefs are his only family or maybe his only family close enough to visit.

drives to Arrowhead, says 'Goodbye' and as soon as Police arrive and force the timing of the decision, he pulls trigger.

just a possibility[/quote]

Certainly is a possibility but how does this not make him still a POS?

One league source in the NFL office said officials were still trying to decide Saturday morning whether the game will be played on Sunday as scheduled. He said his guess was that the game would not be postponed or canceled, due to the complications of when to re-schedule the game in the remaining weeks of the season, or how a cancellation might affect the other 30 teams in the league in terms of competitive fairness.

"There is a ripple effect,'' the source said. "It's not simply two teams affected here. I'm not sure in recent history we've ever just canceled a game. But what's under consideration are all the factors involved if they don't play, when do they play? It's a pretty tight schedule to try and make a game up at some later point. These things have to be thought through. Nobody wants to play a football game right now if you're a Kansas City Chief, but what does that do to the other 30 teams? It gets a little complicated from a schedule standpoint and a competitive standpoint.

The league source said the NFL did not feel it was mandatory to make a decison in regards to the game before Carolina boarded its mid-day flight to Kansas City. "If the Panthers have to fly back from Kansas City without having played the game, it's not that big of an issue to deal with,'' the source said. "We'd rather take the time to think through all the ramifications.''
This does not fit the narrative of Goodell being a money-hungry cold robot.
