Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide

No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

It's a bunch of guys who need guidance and support as they acclimate to life as an NFL player and, hopefully, a responsible, adult human being. Most of these players are individuals who have been rewarded for violence all their lives, been adored by family, friends, and strangers alike, all while having experienced little or no serious, personal disappointments outside of losing a football game or two.

It seems to me that is one description of an at-risk group of people. I hope to God that Pioli didn't eliminate the player support programs in order to impress Clark with his cost-cutting initiatives.

I would be incredibly surprised if there wasn't some kind of counseling and mental health program. Now the outreach part, getting people to participate and anticipating problems, may be found to be lacking. But I can't understand a professional sports team in todays age not having a program set up. I suspect the union would be involved in that as well, but that's pure speculation from me.

Could be the same thing, who knows. There was a case of a highschool player taking his own life which was then deemed to have been a result of repeated head trauma.

I know this year has been tough and we aren't happy with the way things have gone but now isn't a time for that. The players need our support
I agree. And no banners, pamphlets or signs against Pioli. They can all come back later, but not this week.

But it's completely unrealistic to expect those present and involved to prepare for a game right now.

I'll differ to their judgement, but if they ask to postpone, **** the NFL if they won't agree.
From what I've heard, pioli was adamant about the game being played

I'm sorry but I don't think victims of head trauma kill the mother of their child in front of the mother's mother, then drive 10 miles to thank those people who helped improve his life, then commit suicide.

That's not head trauma.

I think it's more of a underlying issue that wasn't found medically, perhaps? Again, I'm just only speculating anyways.

I don't know what to think. I'm a little surprised he's issuing a statement that he is concerned for the fanbase over this. You know, given how he's treated us...
