Books that ****ed you up

there is really only one book that left me disturbed for quite some time after reading it, and it is Aztec by Gary Jennings.
Has anyone here read it as well?
Did you feel the same way, and are there other books that leave you with a similar feeling?

Quote:
Aztec is the extraordinary story of the last and greatest native civilization of North America. Told in the words of one of the most robust and memorable characters in modern fiction, Mixtli-Dark Cloud, Aztec reveals the very depths of Aztec civilization from the peak and feather-banner splendor of the Aztec Capital of Tenochtitlan to the arrival of Hernán Cortás and his conquistadores, and their destruction of the Aztec empire. The story of Mixtli is the story of the Aztecs themselves---a compelling, epic tale of heroic dignity and a colossal civilization's rise and fall.

I actually had to stop reading The Peloponnesian War by Donald Kagan - there were so many parallels between the decline of Athens and the path that America is on now that it was too depressing to finish.

Lights Out by David Crawford, our power went out as I was finishing it, read the last 100pages or so by candle light.

That really trips you out.

This was really unpredictable! I was really surprised by how it ended! I totally thought the first part was about the Hobbit!

Well if you didn't like Less than Zero or The Rules of Attraction, you should skip American Psycho?
The Rules was gay? Did you not know one of the main characters was bi?

Blood Meridian. I wasn't as disturbed by the Judge as some people seem to be but some of the descriptions of violence in this book made me physically ill.

I'm in the middle of Insomnia now, it takes a while to get going I presume... (As with most SK books). I was thinking about starting Desperation next.

I guess the only one that really blew my ****in mind was IT. The ending was so bizzare.

Watching again now, not a book but a TV episode. Episode 4 of American Horror Story this season.

A bunch of really creepy shit being covered up because those who know 'the truth' are homos, alcoholics, or sexually active teens.

Such a corrosive and slanted message. Don't have a beef with 'the other' but to suggest that the world is an amalgam for pure evil distilled for the sole purpose to keep them down is disturbing in 2012.
