$110 here ($9/month).....instead of the $250 to $420 ($24-$35/month) hikes I've seen over the last five years. Gosh, maybe it is working for some of us....

Not if they can't get coverage. I assume they just die.

The 25-person company I worked for was getting hammered with health insurance premiums. My boss was pulling out her hair out about it. In 2007. Thanks Obama!

Story from today. Obamacare isn't about healthcare. It's about getting to Single Payer and control of people. It's a tax, it's designed to push businesses to not be able to offer healthcare so the government is the only option.

It's all Justice - social, economic - all in his playbook of black liberation theology.

Doesn't anybody look critically at the source of articles like this? How much credibility does Hotair.com have? (Especially when her source link, which purports to be to the AP, actually links you to an article from the notoriously right-leaning Washington Times.)

However, let's assume it's factually correct. It's five dollars a month, and due to be phased out; it's not going to send you to debtor's prison. Also, it's to cover people who were previously denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition; if you have someone (or more than one someone) who fits that bill in your family or on your Facebook friends list, or even better if you are one of those people, it's a lot easier to deal with having to skip one McDonald's breakfast every once in a while.

You can do it.

Did you read the article or just jump on the headline? These guys are sitting on a $3.9 billion surplus. They are required (minimally 275 million). Hell it's had to return $520 million to customers the past 3 years because of the 2 percent profit rule.

The AP is a wire service and their articles are carried by many newspapers across the country, including the Washington Times. Citing an AP story from the Washington Times is no different than citing an AP story from the Kansas City Star or the Houston Chronicle.

I think there are reasons to doubt AP's credibility when they cover some kinds of stories (e.g. stories in a war zone where they use stringers who are allied with our country's enemies), but not so much in this case. And unless you have reason to believe that Hotair or the Washington Times have misrepresented the AP wire story, I don't think there's any reason to doubt their credibility.

I know reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, but way to jump to the pro-gov't position with no facts.

At Blue Shield of California, based in San Francisco, reserves have jumped 77% since 2006 from $2.2 billion to $3.9 billion in September. That has outpaced the company's 19% growth in annual revenue since 2006.

Blue Shield said its reserves have nothing to do with rate increases, and that money has been put aside for the future benefit of its policyholders.

"Reserves are needed to ensure our members' claims can be paid no matter what," said Blue Shield spokeswoman Lindy Wagner. "We need them to protect against uncertainties like a pandemic or another crisis."

The company also expects higher costs from an influx of new customers under the federal healthcare law in 2014.

"It's a once-in-a-lifetime change in the healthcare market that will bring a lot of volatility, and we need higher reserves for that," Wagner said.

Even with these proposed rate increases, Blue Shield said, it expects to lose money in the individual insurance market in 2013.

The insurer said its medical costs for this segment of the business grew 10.6% and what it actually pays is rising 12.5% after adjusting for its portion after customer deductibles. The state's largest for-profit health insurer, Anthem Blue Cross, cited a similar jump in medical costs in seeking rate hikes as high as 25% for some individual policyholders, effective in February.
