Florida man accused of killing neighbor with a hammer

THONOTOSASSA, Fla. – A Tampa-Bay area man who authorities say attacked his neighbor with a hammer has been charged with second degree murder with a weapon.
A Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office press release says 28-year-old Jarrett Kyle Brooks was booked into jail late Saturday. It was not immediately known if he has an attorney.
Authorities say Brooks approached Jonathan Acree from behind at a Thonotosassa trailer park, striking him in the head and neck multiple times with a hammer.
Acree was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The sheriff's office SWAT team was called to the home where Brooks was barricaded. Authorities say he surrendered after tear gas was shot into the mobile home. There was no one else in the trailer.
Investigators have not released a motive for the attack.

Exactly. I've already said in this thread the exact same thing. I've stated the exact same thing in the other thread. I never once called for a ban on anything and have repeated my advocacy for the second amendment.

The Media's role in glorifying these tragedies, how we deal with the mentally ill (specifically the focus on drugs thanks to the pharmaceutical lobby), the influence of violent video games on young minds (too many of these episodes mimick these games), and the prolifieration of assault weapons (NRA lobby) are all part of a toxic stew that our society needs to confront.

I agreed until the last sentence. Assault weapons weren't used, they are not a part of the issue at all, just a sly attempt by liberals to continue to legislate my life.

Most importantly, you missed the actual factor that causes 100% of the issues, which most liberals do because ownership of actions is something they avoid like a plague - family responsibility. We don't need to legislate games or guns, we need to be involved responsible human beings as parents.

Clackamas man, armed, confronts Oregon mall shooter

PORTLAND -- Nick Meli is emotionally drained. The 22-year-old was at Clackamas Town Center with a friend and her baby when a masked man opened fire.

"I heard three shots and turned and looked at Casey and said, 'are you serious?,'" he said.

The friend and baby hit the floor. Meli, who has a concealed carry permit, positioned himself behind a pillar.

"He was working on his rifle," said Meli. "He kept pulling the charging handle and hitting the side."
The break in gunfire allowed Meli to pull out his own gun, but he never took his eyes off the shooter.

"As I was going down to pull, I saw someone in the back of the Charlotte move, and I knew if I fired and missed, I could hit them," he said.
Meli took cover inside a nearby store. He never pulled the trigger. He stands by that decision.

"I'm not beating myself up cause I didn't shoot him," said Meli. "I know after he saw me, I think the last shot he fired was the one he used on himself."

The gunman was dead, but not before taking two innocent lives with him and taking the innocence of everyone else.

"I don't ever want to see anyone that way ever," said Meli. "It just bothers me."

I pointed a gun at my sisters boyfriend after he went to her house about a year after he murdered the 3 year old son they had together with a bath robe belt..

Ruger Redhawk 44 Magnum 6 inches from his face....

I begged him to pull a knife or a gun out..... He didn't and that has been almost 25 years ago and he hasn't been heard from since.



Oh, he got a year in the nuthouse for killing him and was released.
