Fox Sports Poll: Who Should the Chiefs Draft at No. 1?

Dec 20. It’s a very weak quarterback class. Matt Barkley is not a first round talent. Geno Smith is not worthy of the top overall pick. Using the NFL’s overall standings following Week 15, here's my latest top 32 and the places I could see college football’s top talent ending up.

1. Kansas City Chiefs: Luke Joeckel, Offensive tackle, Texas A&M*

The Chiefs are due for a change at the quarterback position, that’s for sure. I’m just not sure that quarterback is in this draft. Make no mistake about it — there’s no Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III in this 2013 draft class. There may not be a Ryan Tannehill, Nick Foles, Brock Osweiler, Brandon Weeden or Russell Wilson, either. I’ll get clobbered for this and so might their front office, but I think Kansas City is better off acquiring a veteran quarterback (Alex Smith or Matt Flynn, perhaps) than rolling the dice on a rookie quarterback who’s unworthy of the top overall selection for the sake of drafting one. Joeckel is one of the most promising offensive tackle prospects I’ve seen in the past five years. Very athletic. Nimble. He was fantastic in Mike Sherman’s scheme and even better in Kliff Kingsbury’s. This may not inspire the fan base, but it’s a franchise cornerstone.

6. San Diego Chargers: Geno Smith, Quarterback, West Virginia

Before you freak out over this one, hear me out. I don’t think the Chargers have quarterback as the top position of need, but if Smith slips to No. 6, he’s certainly worth considering here. Philip Rivers will be entering his 10th season in San Diego come August and he’s not getting any younger. At the very least, Smith can add another look for opposing defenses to prepare for. Hey, this is taking a chance, as we don’t even know who will be coaching this team next year, but it’s worth the consideration. Smith’s not a sure-thing top-five pick in my eyes, but he’s certainly an enticing selection if you’re San Diego.

Geno's not a #1 but he's worth 5 spots later.

You gotta be kidding me. Where's the ****in' logic with that?

Oh hush you before the damn idiots wake up and post more crap about needing a LT,DT or some other crap instead of a franchise QB.

The same as it is every goddamn year.

Ryan Tannehill
Andy Dalton
(Okay, all the QBs were garbage in 2010)
Mark Sanchez/Josh Freeman

All of these QBs were just "not at the right value where the Chiefs were picking. If only KC had been a few spots lower, then maybe"

You should be thankful you avoided Assfumble Sanchez at least, though.

Sanchez could fail out of the league after this season, and I would still maintain that without the benefit of hindsight, he was the right decision for the Chiefs at 3. The Cassel trade should never have been made, and ***** shouldn't have tried to outsmart everyone.

If ***** really hated Sanchez that ****ing much, he should have eaten the poor trade down offer (whatever it was he received from teams) and then taken a guy he wanted. Tyson Jackson would still have been there; the only team that really wanted him besides us was Green Bay drafting at 10 overall.

cassel is just as bad, at least the jets tried to develop their own, and they'll probably do it again in the draft this year. That is a trait i would like our next gm to have. ADMIT MISTAKES AND FKING FIX THEM!!!

I want Geno Smith as much as anyone, but Te'o is not going to struggle doing anything at the next level. The reason to not draft Te'o isn't because he won't be the next truly great MLB - he will be. The reason is that we don't need the next great anything except QB.

Let's say it's below freezing outside and you have the chance to buy a coat. You don't spend your last dollar on a briefcase instead, no matter how good of a deal it is. You buy the ****ing coat.

What's truly bullshit is that the chiefs SHOULD be picking Te'o this year, even number one. But that's because they SHOULD have:

Drafted Russel Wilson.
Drafted another QB for competition.
Resigned Bowe.
Resigned Albert.
Resigned Carr.
Traded up for Mark Barron

Then...yeah. Go get your kick ass ILB.

Te'o isn't elite and he'd struggle to play Belchers role (ignoring the terrible value thing).

I'm not saying he's bad, but he doesn't fill a need for us.
