NRA: Society has left children 'utterly defenseless'

NRA: Society has left children 'utterly defenseless'

CNN Wire Staff

(CNN) – Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, said "for all the noise and anger directed at us ... nobody has addressed the most important, pressing and immediate question we face: How do we protect our children right now ... in a way that we know works."

At a press event in Washington, LaPierre said U.S. society has left children "utterly defenseless."

A protester interrupted the NRA appearance before reporters with a banner accusing the NRA of killing children. The protester was led out of the room as he shouted anti-NRA slogans.

LaPierre added that violent crime is increasing in the U.S. due to a lack of willing to prosecute such acts.

How will the added armed guards in schools be paid for?

Early estimates to add armed guards to every school in America are about $2.5 billion.

Who would pay for it? I personally think gun gun owners should pay for it. Maybe ten to twenty percent per gun depending on what kind of weapon.

Is it important? Is it more important than lets say 2.5 billion in Solar Failures?

School funding isn't a federal issue. Don't you think, with a well presented plan, local taxpayers would certainly fund security in our schools?

Let state's and local districts deal with it, including paying for it.

  • "Over 170,000,000 (that's one hundred and seventy million) human beings have been slaughtered by their governments in the 20th Century after they gave up their guns."

Those two stats are enough to ether any gun-grabbers' arguments. Instead, they chose to ramble on about armed guards on the playground at school. This is why it's so easy for liberals to portray 2nd Amendment supporters as a bunch of gun-toting nutjobs.
I think they took a good approach. You don't. that's cool. As per gun toting nut jobs, in any group, there are nut jobs. There are motorcycle riding nut jobs, and nutjobs in almost any group. The nutjobs do not define the group nor does the group generally conform to nut jobs.

Of course. You want to impose regulations on items you don't own, and force the owners of said items to pay for the entire thing. It's so simple!

Columbine had armed security and the dudes just shot at him.

It's the weapons. Amazing how people aren't getting this.

No it's the person who decided to kill. There are millions of gun owners that still have not done something like that.

If we are posing regulation with the end goal of simply saving one life, then we might as well start banning about 95% of our daily activities. I understand that every life is precious and we should cherish every one. But making laws with this being the end goal is just completely unfeasible. I know that it sounds cold-hearted to say, but it's true. We accept the loss of well over 30,000 Americans a year for our right to drive everywhere we need to go. 32,367 vehicle fatalities last year. And yes, many of them were children. Should we ban vehicles to...save...one....life... Or do we accept the fact that much of what we do as a civilization still poses some danger to the population and we have to accept that danger if we decide to allow that activity at all?

I'm speaking on the idiotic notion that armed security in every school would do much of anything in these situations. It was proven at Columbine.

The only way to prevent these kinds of acts is to prevent access to the weapons that can commit them.
