Report: Talk-of-siemian-as-broncos-starter-legiti

HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!

Could not happen to a better team!

If true, what do you think?? 8-8? 7-9?

For the first time in a while, a defending Super Bowl champion enters the following season with a huge question mark at quarterback.

Following the retirement of all-time great signal caller Peyton Manning and the departure of Brock Osweiler in free agency, the Denver Broncos’ quarterback situation is about as unsettled as any in the NFL.

Denver did trade for veteran Mark Sanchez in March before selecting former Memphis signal caller Paxton Lynch in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Though, recent suggestions from Denver indicate that holdover Trevor Siemian could be in line to start with a good performance during training camp (more on that here). Now comes this from the venerable Adam Schefter over at ESPN. The NFL insider is reporting that talk of Siemian starting is “legitimate.”

“The Trevor Siemian talk and chatter is real. He has a legitimate chance to win the job. The competition is real,” Schefter reported on Sirius XM Radio on Monday.

On the surface, this seems to make no real sense. Of the three quarterbacks currently on Denver’s roster, Sanchez boasts the only NFL starting experience.

Meanwhile, the team traded up for Lynch during the first round of the draft this past spring.

Siemian, an undrafted free-agent signing from Northwestern last year, has yet to attempt a regular season pass in the NFL. He also posted just 27 touchdowns compared to 24 interceptions in four college seasons.

This is a clear sign that Denver is not impressed by what it’s seen from Sanchez during off-season activities. And as it relates to Lynch, the expectation there has to be that he’s at least a year away from seeing the field in any real capacity.

Either way you spin it, the defending champs are in a less-than-enviable situation at the quarterback position with less than two weeks remaining until camp.

That has been said for a while now. Siemian has been looking good now that he has fully recovered from the leg injury. I wouldn't want them to throw Pax in there until he has a year of NFL training, so it's a matter of who can perform at least to a mediocre level at the QB position while they groom him.

Would he really be that much worse than Sanchez?

Yeah, that's the thing. The Broncos are looking for mediocrity from the QB position this year. They'll never say that. But it's true. Siemian has looked fluid and sharp so far in pretend football. He actually surprised me a bit by being more mobile than I gave him credit for.

We can laugh all we want, but they did just win a Superbowl, so they have a little leeway.

How many of you would take the Broncos current QB situation in trade for a Superbowl win? I would.

Actually, they don't have the leeway. Who cares about last year's Superbowl?

Lame trade.

What have you done for me this year?

I ve been telling people this for months. He's a gamer. That doesn't mean he's going to lead the/a team to a super bowl, but I know when I see potential on a football field after 30 years.

He had his moments in the preseason last year. He's had more regular season snaps in his career than any of the Chiefs backups.

I like it. Coming off a suberbowl win, two young arms being groomed to compete for QBOTF with a stiff D to help them along. This is going to be a fun year.
The last 5-6 years it has been really great to be a Bronco.

In the only game he threw more than 10 passes this guy was 11 of 24 (48.5%) for 104 yards 1 TD 1 INT.

Can't believe some of you Broncos fans are honestly trying to hype this guy up.
