I dunno. I heard this morning that the Obama admin is ramping up calls for more gun control. Supposed to have a meeting with the NRA guy and hollywood and video game producers...

The emotion is wearing down right now, and they have yet to produce a plan that is even close to being passable.

I hope they try to push Feinstein's plan.

My concern is that the mainstream media is dominating the debate (Fox is the lone exception) and they will demonize the opposition with many people falling for it. Let's hope not though. More people are waking up and trusting them less.

I'm tempted to watch the whole video, but I have a feeling the Nuge will just dominate poor schlubby out-of-his-league Piers Morgan. I'd like to see Nugent go up against someone just as prepared and with just as big a personality - Penn Jilette, maybe.

Also, Nugent's statement that "Where you have the most armed citizens in America, you have the lowest violent crime rate; where you have the worst gun control you have the highest crime rate" piqued my interest. For the sake of this post, let's assume that this shows causation, and not just correlation. Why not.

According to the FBI, here are the top and bottom ten states in violent crime (not counting DC, which is by the far the most violent in all cases).

Top ten (highest violent crime rate). According to Nugent, these should be the ten states with the fewest armed citizens.
Tennessee 608.2
Alaska 606.5
South Carolina 571.9
New Mexico 567.5
Nevada 562.1
Delaware 559.5
Louisiana 555.3
Florida 515.3
Maryland 494.1
Arkansas 480.9

Bottom ten (lowest violent crime rate). These should be the states with the most armed citizens.
Kentucky 238.2
Wisconsin 236.9
Minnesota 221.2 (not counting violent rape)
Wyoming 219.3
Idaho 200.9
Virginia 196.7
Utah 195.0
New Hampshire 188.0
Vermont 135.2
Maine 123.2

I'm not seeing his correlation - but let's check homicides specifically, instead.

Highest homicide rate - ergo, fewest armed citizens:
Louisiana 11.2
Mississippi 8.0
New Mexico 7.5
South Carolina 6.8
Maryland 6.8
Alabama 6.3
Michigan 6.2
Arizona 6.2
Missouri 6.1
Tennessee 5.8

And the lowest, with the most armed citizens.
Idaho 2.3
Oregon 2.1
Maine 2.0
Utah 1.9
Iowa 1.5
Minnesota3 1.4
Rhode Island 1.3
New Hampshire 1.3
Vermont 1.3
Hawaii 1.2

Still not seeing it. Perhaps firearm deaths, then: for this one, I went to Table 20 and made a simple ratio of firearm deaths to the 2010 population of the state from here. For whatever reason, Table 20 doesn't include Alabama or Florida.

Highest firearm death rate, again with the fewest armed citizens:
State Deaths Population Ratio
Louisiana 402 4,533,372 8.867571424
South Carolina 223 4,625,364 4.821242177
Maryland 272 5,773,552 4.711137962
Mississippi 138 2,967,297 4.650697251
Missouri 276 5,988,927 4.608504996
Michigan 450 9,883,640 4.552978457
Tennessee 244 6,346,105 3.844878079
Georgia 370 9,687,653 3.819294518
Arkansas 110 2,915,918 3.772396892
Pennsylvania 470 12,702,379 3.700094289

And the lowest, with the mostest.
State Deaths Population Ratio
Maine 12 1,328,361 0.903368888
North Dakota 6 672,591 0.892072597
Minnesota 43 5,303,925 0.810720363
Montana 7 989,415 0.707488769
Vermont 4 625,741 0.639242115
Iowa 19 3,046,355 0.623696188
South Dakota 5 814,180 0.614114815
Rhode Island 5 1,052,567 0.475029143
New Hampshire 6 1,316,470 0.455764279
Hawaii 1 1,360,301 0.073513142

If anyone can tell me what in the world Ted is talking about, I'm all ears.

I appreciate all of your work but I am sorry you wasted your time trying to weigh in on an argument between two serious malletheads (Morgan and Nugent). What a collosal unformatted time vampire that must have been...
