I like the depth of the DL but there don't seem to be standout stars. Losing Martin is a blow but we all know the Big 12 isn't exactly full of 5 star defenses.

The offense will need to control the ball and put up points. And I think they will. The RB's are awesome and having Pierson and McCay out there in place of Pick and Patterson KU will definitely be able to move the ball. Mundine is going to break out this year as well.

I believe in our coaching staff. I'm looking forward to a year better than the last two.

Yes, he'll be in the slot and will probably be getting lots of short passes/reverses and such.

With Sims, Miller and Cox in the backfield you have to get Pierson on the field as much as possible.

KANSAS-TEXAS FOOTBALL GAME TO BE BROADCAST ON JAYHAWK TV NETWORK
7/29/2013 11:01:00 AM

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Jayhawk Television Network will broadcast the Kansas-Texas football game on Nov. 2 in Austin, Texas. The game will be produced by Time Warner Cable's Metro Sports alongside the Longhorn Network. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m., at UT's Darrell K. Royal-Texas Stadium.

In addition to the game broadcast, Metro Sports will also be adding a pre- and post-game show for this game, like those scheduled around all home games during the 2013 season.

The Kansas-Texas game will be the second telecast of the 2013 football season for the Jayhawk TV Network as it is also broadcasting the KU season-opener against South Dakota on Saturday, Sept. 7. Game time for the KU-USD game is slated for 6 p.m., at Memorial Stadium.

Statewide coverage plans for the Jayhawk Television Network games will be released soon. JTV is currently available in the Kansas City area on Metro Sports via Time Warner Cable and Comcast, and on WOW in Lawrence.

Kansas opens its 2013 fall camp on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Tickets for the 2013 season are available and can be purchased by contacting the Kansas Ticket Office at 1-800-34-HAWKS or via the web at KUAthletics.com.

Had a bit of an epiphany. I realized the one thing the KU has going for it that few teams can claim. We've got nothing to lose. So many other teams have reputations and accolades, pride in their respective programs that can be a vulnerability. Ours has been eroded... so screw it... we've got nothing to lose. Rock Chalk out with your cock out.

And 99% of those other teams never reach the incredible standards they set for themselves.

Just think about it... when was a team like Penn State or Nebraska relevant on the national scene? Yet their fans think they belong with the likes of Alabama, USC, and Ohio State.

It's crazy.

Nebraska has five national titles, three Heisman trophy winners, and 15 players in the college football HOF. Their football program dwarfs anything Kansas has ever done in basketball, yet Kansas fans think they belong up there with UCLA, North Carolina, and Kentucky.

It's one thing to troll the realignment thread. Trolling your own team's thread is taking your idiocy to a new level.

Bitter MUron is bitter.

KU is, and has ALWAYS been a basketball elite.

And always will be.

At least you MUrons have a conference to root for now. It's a rather pathetic existence as a fan, but it's all you've got, ever had, or ever will have.

Troll Fail. Please remember that two of those three bluebloods you mention have their arenas named after Kansas alumni.

2nd most wins all-time. Most conference championships ever. Most successful coaching tree in the game. 42 NCAA Appearances (4th All-Time).

And you bring up UCLA? Who won most of their championships during the Sam Gilbert era? GMAFB.

Opinion: Don’t sell Weis short for choice of words

Link

Since perception is ninth-tenths reality, it’s safe to say Charlie Weis goofed by going national with his “pile of crap,” phraseology he used with recruits when he let them know they should feel confident about immediate playing time.

But shouldn’t reality count for at least 10 percent of reality? I mean, before declaring that one sentence too many and a 1-11 debut season means the Weis hire has exploded in athletic director Sheahon Zenger’s face, would it be OK to look at the entire picture first, even if it means not joining the pile-on? (See how easy it is to be guilty of a poor choice of words. Flag me 15 yards.)

Weis inherited a roster lacking young depth on both lines and in the secondary and one that didn’t have a quarterback capable of winning Division I games. So he brought Dayne Crist on board. He was no better, and in fact, even worse. He also recruited Brigham Young transfer Jake Heaps, who deserves a chance to be judged on his own performance, not on that of Crist. Brady Quinn became way better playing for Weis for two years at Notre Dame, after two substandard seasons as Ty Willingham’s quarterback. Maybe Heaps can make a similar improvement.

But that’s a maybe.
Here’s a definite: In one of Weis’ three jobs — two of which he assigned to himself — Kansas football is performing better than at any time since such records have been tracked. Weis is head coach, offensive coordinator and academic liaison. The least-discussed area, the one that supposedly is the most important, is academics. Before Weis became coach, the football team’s highest grade-point average was 2.75. That figure has been bumped from first to fourth with GPA’s of, in order, 3.00, 2.83, 2.86. Piling — there I go again, excuse me — stacking those report cards on top of each other is a nice counter-punch to any rival coach looking to use another pile against Weis during recruiting visits.

You won’t read about that nationally because it’s not sexy news and it doesn’t fit anybody’s predetermined profile of a grumpy coach who made obnoxious, grandiose statements at the beginning of his tenure at Notre Dame.

Not only do the athletes’ grades look better, their bodies already do as well and many of those are bodies whose growth was set back for two years by a strength and conditioning program that left players rolling their eyes because it was primitive compared to the ones they experienced in college.

Drill sergeant Scott Holsopple, who built a sterling reputation working for Marquette basketball and Florida football, has made a big-time impact, just two springs and two summers into the job. The beer-league softball look, commonplace just a couple of years ago, has gone out of style.

Again, these gradual building blocks that don’t make for sexy copy, but do turn into steps away from losing and toward winning.

Kansas won just one game last year, but the players played hard for Weis, didn’t let a losing record turn them into losers. Wiser play-calling — Weis got away from running the ball against a Rice team that couldn’t stop the run, and the Texas and Texas Tech games included questionable decisions — played a hand in KU not winning a couple of more games, but the Jayhawks never looked like a team that didn’t give strong effort for their coach.

Weis didn’t always use the cleanest language to motivate players to play hard, so they were the least surprised of any group to hear him use the words he chose at Big 12 media day. That doesn’t excuse him choosing those words because opposing student sections will use them against him and the national media won’t let up.
But to obsess on two numbers (1 ... 11) and three words (pile ... of ... crap) without giving a mention to serious gains already made in three important areas (academics, recruiting and strength and conditioning) doesn’t come close to telling the whole story. Four or more victories in 2013 and six or more in 2014 will speak more loudly than three stinky words.

I'm not denying Kansas's credentials as an elite program. They certainly are. In case you missed it, I was calling Nebraska an elite historical program that deserves to be mentioned with the USCs of the world just as much as Kansas deserves to be mentioned with the Kentuckys.

Nebraska has a 2 split NCs. As you know, basketball doesn't allow for that so 1-pt NC game losses in 1953 and 1957 = zero title either year for Kansas. The number of HOF is also pointless given there are far more football players than basketball players.

It's all irrelevant anyway, nobody thinks Nebraska football = Kansas basketball except for folks living in Nebraska and Missouri.

Nebraska has five national titles and five more undefeated seasons in which they didn't get titles awarded under the bizarre system back in the day. They also had a one point loss in an Orange Bowl because they went for two at the end of the game when a tie would have given them the title. Why don't you bring those up, and why in the hell are you bringing up losses from sixty years ago as if you should get half a title for games you lost?

It's bad enough that Kansas tries to claim make-believe Helms "championships". Now you're trying to claim partial titles because the game was close?

Feel free to give Memphis half of your last title.
