Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia: Shortly after Andy Reid was hired in Philadelphia in 1999, he drafted a quarterback second overall (Donovan McNabb) and although he received criticism for the pick, it turned out to be the correct choice. Selecting Geno Smith No. 1 would bring some of the same criticism by some, but it would give the Chiefs a talented quarterback to build around.

Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M: The national perception is that Kansas City fans will be irate if the Chiefs don't draft a quarterback with this pick. That may not be giving an educated and passionate fan base enough credit for recognizing this year's poor crop at the position, especially with no quarterback available with the star power coach Andy Reid demands. Clearly the quickest way to turning around a franchise in today's NFL is with a star quarterback. Just as clearly, however, investing a couple of years into the wrong quarterback can lead to an almost irreversible setback. Joeckel, NFLDraftScout.com's top-rated prospect, played a significant, if somewhat unrecognized role in the rise of Ryan Tannehill a year ago and the Heisman campaign of Johnny Manziel. The Chiefs already boast a solid left tackle in Branden Albert but the former first round pick is entering free agency and could be looking for a big pay day, that frankly, his inconsistent play and durability doesn't really warrant.

Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia: Nick Foles finished 1-5 in six games as a starter for the Eagles, providing scant evidence that the franchise should put their future in his hands. Aa quarterback with Smith's intriguing skill set will certainly catch the attention of Andy Reid's replacement. The perception is that Smith struggled mightily down the stretch but take that with a grain of salt -- he threw for 42 touchdowns and six interceptions.

This idea that Smith's good enough to go 4 but not 1 to a QB-starved team just infuriates me.
