Geno Smith, Dee Milliner to visit Kansas City Chiefs

Quote:
Geno Smith, Dee Milliner to visit Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have spent the last week or so hitting the road, hosting private workouts with several possibilities for their No. 1 overall pick in next month's 2013 NFL Draft. Now, they are heading back home for the last two visits.

According to sources briefed on the Chiefs' plans, the team will be bringing West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith and Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner to Kansas City.

Among the top prospects the Chiefs held private, on-campus workouts for were Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel, Oklahoma tackle Lane Johnson, and Central Michigan tackle Eric Fisher.

Coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey have been methodical and thorough in their search. After the final two visits for the top spot, they'll settle in and set their board. While the league-wide assumption is that they will take Joeckel, the Chiefs are at least exploring every option before making a pick.

Chiefs scouts are deep in the process of evaluating Smith, and the word is they are fascinated by him. One scout compared the way he moves to a young Donovan McNabb, raving about how he's thrown the ball in his workouts. Though they did trade for 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, the team wouldn't think twice about having Geno Smith on the bench behind Alex Smith for a short amount of time if he were determined to be the top overall player.

When Dorsey was in Green Bay, the team did the same with Aaron Rodgers, who sat for three seasons behind Brett Favre.

Also said the Chiefs are fascinated by Smith and said the Chiefs are deep into evaluating him. That means they are SERIOUSLY considering drafting him.

Good news but nothing more than a smoke screen imo. Some teams are desparate for a QB and want Geno badly. If we show that we continue to may take him as well, teams will have to come to us with a good trade down proposal to get him in the end.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 29s
Word from #Chiefs scouts: They're fascinated by Geno Smith, comparing him to a young McNabb. They love how he throws. Need to study deeper

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 11m
When #Chiefs get a look at those 6 players, they will set their board for No. 1. Slow, methodical, thorough for Andy Reid & GM John Dorsey

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 14m
#Chiefs plans for No. 1? Bring Geno Smith & Dee Milliner in for in-house visits. Had private workouts w Floyd, Joeckel, Johnson & Fisher...

It's all a smokescreen to drive up the price of that #1 pick.

"Young" McNabb.
