If you want to see where he puts value, shouldn't these percentages be normalized to the 22 positions on the filed and the average length of career for each position and then weighted by draft positon according to the draft value chart?

Makes total sense that any draft decision maker is going to favor CB/LB/WR considering they're the positions carried heavily on a 53 man roster and strongly contribute to special teams. However, I recognize you worked hard on this and thank you for sharing. It was interesting.

I agree with the normalized criticism but I also read this post and had a chuckle. Thanks for the bits of info.

It also would have to be normalized against which past picks were players which stuck and which ones busted, because that affects future picks independently of draft strategy, and this data would need to be normalized against positions of importance... like interior linemen, defensive ends, fullbacks... the stuff real teams are made of...

Here's what I see...
Reid takes d-linemen in the first two rounds 29% of the time Dorsey takes d-linemen in the first two rounds 23% of the time Reid takes o-linemen in the first two rounds 11% of the time Dorsey takes o-linemen in the first two rounds 14% of the time If we go by this, there is about a 40% chance we take a linemen in the first round. You can almost bet the farm we will take when in the first two rounds. |

One thing that these charts, and nice job on those, does not capture is the fact that Reid took a QB (McNabb being a franchise QB is a debate for a different thread) with his first ever pick for Philly.

this info is ambiguous at best.
*Reid didn't put the Eagles together, he coached them and had input. *Dorsey didn't have full control either. when a person goes to the grocery store with the same list of groceries and does not check refrigerator stock first, that is stupidity. You can't come out with a shopping list and call it a day. You need to provide context -- stock at hand. For example, they drafted McNabb and didn't need to draft a QB in the first round for many years. They did not. Some may say that is QB negligence. Also, in the NFL, you need to build your team to compete against your division rivals. This dictates how your team is built.
