Is the battle for gay rights a civil rights battle?

From Obama's inaugural speech.

"We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths — that all of us are created equal — is the star that guides us still; just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall ... Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law — for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well."

Today Obama placed an original place for the battle for gay civil rights, Stonewall along side the same original battleground's for women's rights(Seneca Falls) and African-American rights(Selma).

So the poll question is............

Is the battle for gay rights a civil rights battle?

I think the Government needs to stay out of the lives of its citizens as much as possible. When they just can’t help their selves (which is more often than I like) they should serve and protect everyone equally regardless of their race, religion or who they want to bump uglies with.
The vast majority of the legal problems would not exist if not for do- gooder social engineering where Uncle Sam rewards people for actions they deem good for society. Getting Married, having children, buying homes, the road to good intentions is often paved with hell.

The other day I saw a sign over a drinking fountain the other day it read "Gays Only".

I was thinking to myself that is pretty disriminating. Then a gay guy came over and used it. As he was drinking the sperm from the fountain it really hit me just how far they've come.

Interesting. I see it as a civil rights issue for those very reasons. If Gov. just can’t stay out of peoples business giving one group preferential treatment by my thinking automatically makes those outside that group a lesser class of people. Probably the same reason I don’t like quotas or hate crime legislation.
