WMD's were found in Iraq

Here's a report from the DOD that says munitions containing mustard and sarin gas were found in Iraq.

This breaking news from 7 years ago is huge.

"The munitions addressed in the report were produced in the 1980s, Maples said. Badly corroded, they could not currently be used as originally intended, Chu added."

So, they were not producing them as was claimed (these were from the 80s) and they couldn't have even been used as intended because they had degraded.

In other words, there is probably more dangerous stuff under your kitchen sink--that bottle of Clorox bleach is a potential WMD!

Our list of reasons for invading Iraq were manifold. One, that turned out to be based on faulty evidence, was that Saddam's regime had an active WMD program. Another, that was based on compelling inspection results, was that Saddam had not appropriately accounted for and disposed of the stockpiles he possessed prior to Gulf War I. This vindicates the latter.

As it turns out, most of our reasons for going to war ended up being grounded in truth. The one you point to is an exception, but it doesn't de-legitimize the decision to put an end to Saddam's twelve years of anti-American belligerence and provocation.

Pat, you're being silly. As you said, the active WMD program thing was complete BS and was basically THE reason for invading--that they were an imminent threat to us ("They have WMDs and we know where they are.")

The stuff about old stockpiles from the 80s "vindicates" the decision? It certainly wasn't an actual part of the decision because it is and was a phony issue. Most of it actually was accounted for. But the other stuff found abandoned, long ago buried away--was worthless. It was degraded, not usuable as weapons.
