Should unemployment recipients do community service?

For Direckshun. Trying to keep the forum alive buddy...

Is there a point in time someone should have to do community service to receive unemployment benefits?

Yes. Personally I think all receiving govt benefits should do some kind of work in exchange save for social security if you've paid in...

Aren't the employers (and sometimes the employee) actually funding the "benefit?"

Seems like this would require additional state expenses to police this system. And requiring the unemployed to work for free for X hours a week in theory takes time away from them to seek actual employment.
There's a lot of practical and common sense problems with this.

Rather than spending $ to enforce a community service system, that money would probably be better spent on job placement services or increased enforcement of provisions that require people to be seeking work.

It'd be hilarious to drive to work and see hundreds of folks standing outside shivering by the highway holding plastic trash bags looking around bored picking up fast food wrappers. With no supervision. We could call it "MylondsCare". I bet the new government computer program (Freeloaders.gov) to track this new volunteer force will be impervious to crashes too.

With all the extra people doing free community service, certain places will surely be able to lay off employees who used to be paid do to that work. Then they can go on unemployment and do community service...and...fast forward...problem solved!

This is a stupid idea because it's not the government's money. They have WAY too much power over this shit in the first place. It's. Not. Their. Money. But they sure act like it is. I collect it every year during the winter, and my employer is happy to pay for it so I don't find employment elsewhere during their down time. It's not welfare. The employer and employee fund all of it. I pay taxes on it, and my employer pays the bulk of it. The government pays zero. Social security is closer to welfare than unemployment.

Now, the emergency benefits aka the 99 weekers, I don't know. If that's federally funded, then you may have something to talk about.

This reveals all the benefits from establishing a firm cut off on benefits.

There is zero administrative cost.
There are no needs to monitor or keep track.
Those who feel doing something for some money is better than ass sitting and getting zero will go get said job and add to the economy.
Ass sitters who prefer zero income to some income will happily do that as they will anyway.
Those who scam the system will do so no matter what you do. Scammers gonna scam.

I get the max in MO and it's around $1300. I have to stash my nuts away like a squirrel during the rest of the year because my monthly nut is over twice that. Welfare queens make even less, but we don't mind talking about what shit stains they are. Can you imagine living off of that? If someone is in that situation, I'm not running shit on them. Their life is infinitely worse than mine.

One hip replacement for an elderly person on Medicaid could cost 50K and blow away years of your winter UE checks. And there isn't a single fire breathing conservative (including perhaps the original poster) who doesn't know somebody on Medicaid who might need this hip replacement. Who'd make him say: "Well now wait: let's be rational. We can't let them hobble around without a functioning hip dammit!"

They should do something.

1) Look for new job.
2) Better themselves: tradeschool, college, interview classes etc.
3) Volunteer.

The last thing they should be doing is sitting at home chillin out playin xbox 24/7

There are job search requirements unless you have a call back date. I have a call back date that isn't until March. So that means I get $330 a week to sit back, get stoned, and play Xbox one 24/7 until then. My employer pays that money. Not you, or the government. So you really don't have to get upset about me getting stoned and playing xbox for the next couple of months. My employer is paying for it.
