Alex Smith to ask for release

http://tracking.si.com/2013/01/28/al...?sct=obnetwork

If no draft picks are involved, does that change your opinion on bringing him in?

Draft pick, Smith, Stanzi(?) as your QB's in camp.

I personally think a shitty QB can make a decent line look like shit.

Cassel made our line look like shit in 2011. Orton produced just fine behind the very same line.

Palmer is a statue that holds the ball too long, doesn't make good reads and has spotty accuracy at best.

Montana (Steve Young)
Bono (Steve Young)
Grbac (Steve Young)
Green (Kurt Warner)
Huard (Tom Brady)
Cassel (Tom Brady)
Quinn (hahaha)
Orton (Tebow hahaa)

Insanity would indicate that the next Chiefs quarterback would be Alex Smith (Colin Kaepernick)

A guy asking for his release because he wants to be a starter.

Also, a few of you probably need to take a step back.

Alex Smith is gonna get signed or traded to a team that wants him as a starter...not a guy that will be a stopgap.

I give us signing Alex Smith and drafting Geno (or any other QB in the first three rounds) about a .1% chance.

If we sign/trade for Alex Smith, he is THE GUY.

I don't think it necessarily a bad play... PROVIDED... we draft a QB early.

Htis' doesn't think both things can happen... and he may be right. If he is right I prefer to pass on Alex. If he is wrong, I would take a flier on both.

Just saying. Alex Smith was playing at an above average level before being replaced this year.

That much is fact.

It's not like he's ancient in age, either.

If they had more leverage and the ability to hold him "hostage" for lack of a better term...I bet they could get a late 1st for him. I mean, he's probably between the 15th and 20th best QB in the NFL and you could probably argue he's between 10 and 15 (though I'd disagree).

It's not what WE want, but if you had to give him a VALUE GRADE...it has to be at least a 2nd round pick. Lets not kid ourselves.

but that's just if you put a grade on every player and didn't think about anything else...other than a value grade...not team, nothing.

being the 49ers are over the cap, have Kaep, and need/should make a quick decision...I bet if someone offers a 3rd he's gone.

worst case scenario is we land Smith, draft something else at #1, and take a QB in the 2nd or 3rd

don't like it, but whatever
