That's just bad business. You don't let a proven commodity walk away for nothing, no matter how much respect they have for him.

If he hits the open market, he will pull a huge contract from some QB hungry team. Likely Cleveland, now that they have Norff running the offense.

Do you really know it's baseless info? You don't think Alex Smith has told Trent Dilfer things when he was a free agent and the teams who were courting him?

Is it really that far fetched?

It's a nightmare scenario for me because I hate Alex Smith, but to discredit these reports is ridiculous.

It's lazy because the comments from Reid supposedly go back to last year when he was with the EAGLES. That's if you believe the report from Trent Dilfer.

It's called respect. Plus when you have arguably the best team in the NFL, you have the luxury of doing things like that.

It has already been reported by people with team insider knowledge that they will release him out of respect early if they can't get a trade they AND he likes. They won't trade him anywhere he doesn't want to go.

If they trade for Smith

Well anyways, After I pick myself up off the floor....It just tells you they don't feel any rookie QB can win right now!

It will be interesting to see what Dorsey/Reid do similar to the Carl/Marty era PR wise to win the fans back over. It's not as desperate as it was in the late 80's but I think bringing in a veteran QB would scream desperation.

So you think it's out of the realm of possibility that Reid would be interested in him again when the QB situation is in even worse shape here?

I actually do believe that report.

Doing things like that out of respect, you won't be the best I'm the nfl for long.

They'll release him because they need the money to lock up more important positions than back up qb.

It's no different than when a player is rewarded with a good contract when they were good to the team.

If you are rewarding guys for what they've done, not what they will do for you in the future, you suck at contract evaluations

How so? I already said they will release him because of the 7 million extra they will be paying him otherwise.

You are just whining to whine now. You need a girlfriend and a vacation.

Absolutely, if they can manage to keep him around another year it only betters that team, as important as QB has become, even beyond years past? they'd be fools to not try.
