Nope, everyone should be entitled to an annual increase in the standard of living, every year until they die.

For those who only trust Conservative media, here is a safe site that cites their information:
/still waiting for studies that disprove this.

Source: TheAmericanConservative.com; "Raising American Wages...by Raising American Wages. November 19, 2012.

"With Americans still trapped in the fifth year of our Great Recession, and median personal income having been essentially stagnant for forty years, perhaps we should finally admit that decades of economic policies have largely failed.

The last two years of our supposed recovery have seen American growth rates averaging well under 2 percent.[i] Although our media often pays greater attention to the recent gains in stock market and asset prices, such paltry growth means that many of the millions of jobs lost in 2008 and 2009 will never be regained, and the broadest measures of American unemployment and underemployment will remain stuck in the vicinity of 15%.[ii] Meanwhile, an astonishing 93% of the total increase in income during the recovery period has been captured by the top one percent of earners, who now hold almost as much net wealth as the bottom 95 percent of our society.[iii] This polarized situation does not bode well for our future, and unless broader social trends in jobs and incomes soon improve, dark days surely lie ahead"

"Perhaps the most effective means of raising their wages is simply to raise their wages.

Consider the impact of a large increase in the federal minimum wage, perhaps to $10 or more likely $12 per hour."

"A minimum wage in this range is hardly absurd or extreme. In 2012 dollars, the American minimum wage was over $10 in 1968 during our peak of postwar prosperity and full employment.[viii] The average minimum wage in Canadian provinces is currently well over $10 per hour, the national figure for France is more than $12, and Australia has the remarkable combination of a minimum wage of nearly $16.50 together with 5 percent unemployment.[ix]"

One could make a good argument about breaking up the ownership of capital, so there is less concentration of capital in the hands of the few. That makes sense. That's what America did earlier 20th century with anti-monoploy laws. But the idea you're not getting paid what your worth? Silly. Go to another employer and ask for more money. He might or might not pay you it. And if he doesn't, it sure's hell ain't because he's in cahoots with the other 20,000 businesses around KC to depress wages. There is no conspiracy.

You get to choose whether you become rich or not. Do you know what it takes? Do you care? Are you trying to get there with minimum wage jobs?

.....you make your own breaks.
If you want a job that pays enough for food, housing, and transportation you need to have the skill set required to get that kind of pay. You have to make the choices and sometime sacrifices that help you get that.

I worked two jobs and paid my own college expenses (no loans) to get through. It was necessary at the time but the dividends have been worth it.

Anyoine who wants it can do it.

Ok, what is your proposal? And if you dare say "More deficit spending on jobs programs!", you'll be punched in the nose.

I did that several times in my life. It's ****ing hard.

The difference is that you think that someone who doesn't make the same decision as you or I did, they are lazy and unworthy of any help.

Damn right it is hard.

Lazy and unworthy of help....what help might that be? Artificially inflate wage rates for low skill work to a living wage? That is ridiculous.

They need job training and initiative.

I think if you're not willing to put in the work and the sacrifices to put yourself and your family in a better situation, you can't expect to live the same life style as those who do.

If you don't like being broke, find something to do to earn additional income.
I've got a good job, own a company....and last saturday and sunday, I was out treasure hunting and made around $400. Dirty work, but the same exact opportunity is out there for everyone.
I've been poor. Didn't like it much. Worked some pretty filthy jobs for pretty pathetic wages, to get myself into a position so I don't have to do that anymore.

It doesn't matter what the Min wage is....the economy will adjust so that will still be the same lifestyle because the costs of everything else will go up too. It's just how it is and it's pretty basic economics.
