HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police are investigating the death of a Harrisburg man who was found seriously injured in his bed on the 1500 block of Vernon Street in Harrisburg this morning.

This is Harrisburg's second homicide in this week.

Police say they responded to the 1500 block of Vernon Street at 11:25 a.m. after receiving a call that two men were fighting with hammers.

Inside they found a 55-year-old man on the floor with stab wounds to his back. In a second floor bedroom they found 60-year-old Jose Vazquezmassive who was suffering from massive head trauma and injures.

Harrisburg Police Chief Pierre Ritter said he was bludgeoned to death.

I will say that "arms" today could not have been what the founders could have ever imagined. However, hammers are pretty much the same.
Here is a link to FBI crime stats that drove the meme:

Let's not let those numbers get twisted. The 323 represents rifle deaths which the so called "assault weapon" is a subset.

And of the 496 blunt object deaths the hammer is just a subset. You can have my claw hammer when you pry it from my cold dead fingers!

Sorry, but that number includes "blunt objects" of which hammers are included. So, Colonel Mustard getting it in the library with a candlestick would be included.

I'm not big on most of the proposed gun control measures, but I do get sick of the bullshit put out there--not that comparing guns to hammers makes any sense anyway, but that stat is not even true.

It's rifles vs. blunt objects in the FBI data set. So the numbers show all rifles, including whatever you want to consider "assault rifles." The meme depicts what is commonly called an "assault rifle", or scary looking gun. It's one subset versus another.

What is this "scary looking gun" nonsense? Every gun is scary looking when you're staring down the barrel.

It's a term I made up. You know, in the same way that someone else made up "assault rifle."

It is silly. Almost like trying to pretend the weapon couldn't kill someone.

Almost as silly as pretending that the weapon itself is somehow dangerous.

It is dangerous. It exists to kill. The name has no connotation.

I don't view it any more or less dangerous than a pistol if in the wrong hands.

My original question about the meme was the claim about hammers. It is ridiculous to even bring hammers into this, but I was playing along. The hammer stat is BS because it apparently includes anything used to bonk someone over the head--from hammers to candlesticks to (I would guess) the deadly spoons we discussed in another thread.

Judging by the statistics it is less dangerous than a pistol. Substantially so. By "dangerous" I assume we are referring to homicides. We are talking about gun control legislation.

Well, the FBI specifically mentions "clubs, hammers, etc." under the category of blunt objects. It is no more ridiculous to consider hammers than it is to consider "assault rifles", which would be a subset of rifles.

I am pretty sure I could kill someone just as effectively with an assault rifle as I could a pistol. Statistics only reflect weapon of choice. Both are equally deadly.

I am aware that we are talking about gun control legislation, however, the only reason it has any traction is with gimmick logic such as this.

A weapon is a tool of death. It can be used for good or it can be used for evil. Education and straight answers will push the public opinion. Acting like it is a harmless object that doesn't possess the capacity to harm comes across as, well, silly.
