Do you support the outright ban of "assault" rifles?

Simple...

yes or no.

This thread brought to you by a comment in DC stating we would be surprised by how few people in DC would support the ban. Figured we might as well get numbers.

I consider mass shootings to be an aberration and the statistics back me up on that. I consider the other 99% of homicides more of a problem.

Compared to all other murders, shooting and otherwise, mass shootings are a very small drop in the bucket.....

If I had to wait around for there to be a period of no mass shootings to push for gun control, I'd be waiting a very long time.

One mass shooting a month, since 2009.

If I pushed for gun control at any point in recent history, I'm standing on the corpses of whomever it was that's been most recently slain.

It's not unreasonable or immoral to look at the carnage of Newtown, Aurora, etc... take a look in the mirror and say "something needs to change."

I consider them all a problem. And I'm not going to ignore the deadly "aberrations" (which are happening monthly now) when I address the whole problem.

Mass shootings happen in America at a pace that should honestly shame us, compared to anybody else in the western world.

It should honestly shame us.

No, what is shameful is when dick-kncukles such as yourself want to start restricting constitutional rights based on a very, very, very small % of incidents.

This is the second time this has been brought up in this thread...

I don't get it -- is there something that suggests I don't support traffic safety laws?

I would think if you were really worried about innocent people being killed you would focus your energy on a larger part of the problem, but Obama isn't crying about drunk drivers so I guess that's off your radar

Do you support banning alcohol? Punishing everybody who likes to drink alcohol for the actions of those who abuse it seems like it should be right up your alley.

Far more people die as the result of drunk driving than *assault rifle* killings.

Then try to actually do something about it. Banning "assault rifles" does nothing. You could go stand in your front yard with a "I ♡ Everyone" t-shirt if you want, you will accomplish the same thing. Support legislation that actually makes a difference.

For the 100th time, I want to do far more than just an assault weapons ban. The assault weapons ban was just the subject of this thread.

But assault weapons make mass shootings deadlier. It's not unconstitutional to restrict or even ban them. So I say that's what we should do.
