Do you support the outright ban of "assault" rifles?

Simple...

yes or no.

This thread brought to you by a comment in DC stating we would be surprised by how few people in DC would support the ban. Figured we might as well get numbers.

This thread's pretty much wound down (thanks to everybody I went back-and-forth with), so I'd like to say a piece real quick that's tangeantal to it.

Two things:

First off: .

This is pathological. I typically don't give a shit about RNR, but this is ****ing weird behavior. To keep coming back to the same thread for a week's time, adding hardly anything to it other than this bullshit directed at a single poster.

Second off, this is why DC is considered a cesspool. And it's why I started that poll to potentially revise the forum, which of course was shot down. If this mess doesn't bother you, so be it. But my guess is that even the folks that enjoy this forum tire of this ridiculous bullshit. And posters have admitted this leads to a cooling effect on participants in this forum.

That's all, that's my piece.

You still never explained what aspects of an "assault rifle" you think makes it easier to commit a mass shooting with.

Well, the fact that it's a gun makes it a lot easier to commit a mass killing with - but banning guns, or even banning semi-automatic guns or handguns, is ridiculously unrealistic and, as Patteeu said, fringey.

As to the 'assault weapons' specifically making it easier to commit a mass shooting with, it's no more effective (and may often be less effective) than a different firearm. They are, however, a lot more appealing, for just the reason that so many others have been saying: they're scary-looking. Adam Lanza, for example, chose the AR-15 because he was running on all id, and went with The Big Gun even though the two pistols he was carrying would probably have been more effective.

And now, I finally get back to a question posed to me several days ago.

Edit: I see that you and pawn have touched on a similar discussion, but I'm suggesting that the specific assault weapon ban is a strawman because it targets weapons that aren't really related to the purported problem not because of vague terminology. And btw, supporting a ban on all semi-automatic weapons is shockingly fringe.
I can understand this argument, and if I were a judge I would at least hear the case. I honestly would like to say yes, the 'assault weapons' listed in the bill are not the ones that are used in the vast majority of gun deaths in this country, so instead let's target the ones that are. The problem is, the 'ones that are' are handguns, and if absolutely nothing else, no one's get anywhere near the political clout to even get that out of committee - plus, implementing it would be an Orwellian nightmare to say the least. So, to put it bluntly, you take what you can get.

Also, I want to add to Direckshun's post about "This is why DC is a cesspool", specifically for this post:

Frazod, this is over the line. Argue if you've got one. Call us names if you want; that seems to be where you're happiest - but to attempt to brand someone who doesn't agree with you politically as a child molester is too far. Knock it off.

And that's why we can't have nice things.

I glad you noticed you worthless know nothing about the subject shitbag. You are a coward who has jumped on this bandwagon and have shown you know nothing about it. You are among those who would trade all of your rights for the promise from the government that they will provide for you and protect you. Collect your government check and keep cheering the surrender of our rights, but make no mistake you are my enemy you worthless mother****er~

Using this logic, would you be happy with a ban on shotguns if that was all you could get? It too is a gun thatis rarely used to kill people.

Right. That quote (similar to sentiments expressed earlier in the thread by Direckshun) is an admission that the slippery slope arguments made by gun rights advocates are well founded.

Knock it off? Or you'll do what? Hit me with your purse? Blow me.

While you're dreaming of the day when government goons will trample my constitutional rights and seize several thousands dollars of my lawfully-obtained property for no good reason, you might want to look up the definition of "perhaps." Or not - I don't really care. You and every other scumbag who voted "yes" in this poll are as dead to me as Neil Smith. And whether you not you support child molesters, AFAIC, you might as well.

What is the matter with you? As Obamagivesmeanerrection pointed out if you call these shitbags what they are you're pathological and show bad behavior. Nevermind these worthless shitbags offer nothing new, and keep exposing themselves to be uninformed clowns who are merely following the marching orders of their party. Stop being mean! We need to treat these worthless mother****ers with respect. We need to pretend they offered something of value to the discussion. Damn bro where is your compassion? These worthless shitbag assholes deserve some respect~

Yes they do, the same respect that their ilk shows our kind. They may not have written the book on mean and nasty but, they have certainly contributed a chapter or two in their time.

Who would have ever thought that I would come to actually love raider fan? I feel so.... dirty.
